Anonymous contributors in Fedora
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
Someone asked me offline if Fedora allows one to remain anonymous and I
have answered it but perhaps this info would benefit others. As far as I
know, it is a requirement that you give your full name and other
information as specified in the Fedora account system while joining as a
contributor but can choose to mark all of the information except your id
(can be a nickname) and email address as private information. You
could potentially give false data while signing up and my understanding
is that, this is not a liability for Fedora (we might required to
remove the account if we get to know however) but one
practical/administration problem with remaining completely anonymous is
that you cannot be sponsored or reimbursed for any of your expenses by
Fedora Project since banks would require a identity to transfer cash
to. If this isn't something you will ever need as a contributor, it is
possibly to remain anonymous for all practical purposes. None of this
covers the legal aspects but that isn't my area of expertise and I
cannot give you advice on that. Contact legal AT fedoraproject.org for
that.

I've asked him to outline what he felt was easier in Ubuntu, so we could
see what Fedora is doing. I've forwarded the mail because it's a
consequence of us not being able to make Fedora available to people on
time. Had I managed to accept the ticket last month, we'd probably have
one more Fedora user.

How to re-format readonly USB drive
by Lakshmipathi.G
Hi -
I have an USB drive formatted as readonly ISO9660 . I need to reformat it .
I have tried normal mkfs. But they failed saying "read-only filesystem" .
Then tried gparted, Its also not working, seems like not even detecting
usb. Running from command line "parted -l" says-
Warning: Unable to open /dev/sr1 read-write (Read-only file system).
/dev/sr1
has been opened read-only.
Error: /dev/sr1: unrecognised disk label
Any thoughts?

Free media volunteers
by Ankur Sinha
Hi!
The number of requests is constantly increasing. I've accepted as many
as I could from Bangalore and around. Can already existing volunteers
please go ahead and accept a few more from their nearby areas?
Since the demand is increasing, it would be nice if more volunteers
would sign up and help increase the supply as well. Only two a month :)
If you have fedora media that you aren't using, please pass it on to one
of the volunteers. It would help a great deal.
Thanks,
Ankur
