Fedora 15 doesn't boot
by Navdeep Singh Sidhu
Dear Rahul,
Thanks for help.
As you have told me, i tried to boot at run level 3. But the same problem
lies here. My display doesn't respond. But i think fedora boots fine in the
background. May be fedora 15 doesn't support to my Laptops Hardware.
I have installed on my system via live usb but not on my laptop, by using
another laptop. First I created a live usb of Fedora 15 using Unetbootin.
then i tried to boot from it on my laptop. But shows an error
> - Dropping to debug shell.
> sh: can't access tty: job control turned off
> dracut:/#
>
as i had told you earlier. then i tried to boot the live usb on another
laptop that is HP pavilion dv 2700 with
-Intel Core 2 duo processor 1.8GHz
-2gb ram
-256Mb nividia geforce 8600 m graphics card.
-160 gb hardisk
fedora 15 live usb boots well on that system without any error and GNOME3
also supports it's hardware.
then i attached my portable hardisk to that system and started the
installation process. During the installation process i formatted my fedora
14 partition & install fedora 15 to it. Then i installed another Linux
distro backtrack5 to my portable hardisk on another partition by replacing
Ubuntu 10.10. Both these distro works fine on HP laptop but not on my dell.
fedora 15 doesn't show any screen after booting but Backtrack5 works
correctly. there is no problem with GRUB or any installation. I think it
doesn't support my laptop's hardware.
So is there any way to sort out this problem? ThanX again?

Reply regarding Linux Cup (Competition)
by Navdeep Singh Sidhu
Dear Prabin,
I had recently read your mail. I would like to inform you that I'm a Student
Of GNDU, Amritsar. I had recently started a group at my University Under
Technical Student Society (TSS). The name of the group is Linux Group GNDU.
In our Group we spread awareness regarding Linux & other open source
software's. We organize Group discussions, classes, seminars & workshops on
Linux. In next few months we are planning to organize a mega event on Linux
in our campus. But we have some problems like we have no sponsor for this
event until now. Second one is that we all are not experts in the Field of
Linux. But our team is capable of organizing any big event. So we have
positive views regarding your question. If you could provide any help
technically or regarding sponsorships we can organize this kind of
competitions in India at National Level or at International Level. If you
have other suggestions for us, feel free & kindly send us your valuable
knowledge & suggestions. I personally appreciate your thinking .

Competitions in Fedora
by PRABIN DATTA
Why we never organise any competition like Aspiration (by Infosys),
Image Cup (by Microsoft), etc for Fedora. (I have never heard)
Is it not possible to organise one in India with:
1. 1st Prize 7000/-
2. 2nd Prize 6000/-
3. 3rd Price 5000/-
It can be a Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) exam or Software Development.
Thanks!
Have a nice day!

used fedora 14 and fedora 13. they all boot well and worked fine. but fedora

It would be great to get an update on this, so as to enable me to
re-create a spin with the updated kickstart file. My re-formatted
patch is ready and I used 'xsltproc' to check the XML file and sort
them within groups.

Many thanks in advance.

Important: FUDCon APAC bidding has started
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/fudcon-planning/2011-June/002391...
I have replied with the proposal detailed at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon:India_2011
I am considering venues in Pune primarily at this point since no alternative
places have been proposed with ownership yet but if you have a compelling
offer, feel free to pitch in. We are working on securing the dates
somewhere in November soon. As the timing of writing, we have a proposal
of 30 talks and 11 hackfests with owners and 45 people in the
pre-registration list. While FUDCon is always open and free to anyone, we
are going to have to pick a swag cut off point at 120 or 150 attendees. So
register yourself soon. While the FUDCon page is open for everyone to
edit, all speakers must have a Fedora account and a user page in the wiki
since I need to be able to contact you to schedule things. This is also
highly recommended for those registering themselves as attending the event.
Creating a Fedora account and user page will just take a few minutes and is
mostly a click through process. I recommend anyone attending or organizing
the event to subscribe themselves to
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/fudcon-planning
Since FUDCon will have international participation, we are going to rely on
this global mailing list and the tracker at
https://fedorahosted.org/fudcon-planning/ for planning. All sponsorship
requests will go into this tracker and NOT the Fedora India one. We will
also be organizing IRC meetings regularly at
http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#fudcon-planning. I would like to
schedule a IRC meeting tomorrow at 5 PM IST. For those volunteering to
help with the event, thank you and please read through the info at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon_organization
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon_organization_process
We are on the lookout for co-sponsors for this event. Sponsors will be
donating in kind (lunch, goodies, bandwidth etc) and not cash directly.
Having a additional budget will help us bring more community members to the
event among other things. If you have any contacts in place and can talk to
marketing folks in any organization and need more details, let me know
offlist. Rough budget estimates are already provided in the wiki. Do let
me know if you have any questions or any of the above. Thanks
Rahul
