tools for building cloud images in the buildsystem
by Matthew Miller
Background: appliance-creator, as part of Thincrust, isn't really maintained
anymore. It'd be nice to switch to something else. There's two main options
that I can see:
1. ami-creator, as maintained by the Eucalyptus project. This basically
works the same way as the appliance-creator but is maintained.
2. livemedia-creator. This does a "real" install, using anaconda inside a
VM.
The second has the obvious disadvantage of needing to launch a VM. Richard
Jones suggest that running under fully-emulated qemu layered in a VM builder
might not be so bad because we'll be io-bound anyway.
It has the advantage of doing exactly what anaconda does, which will make it
easier to track the standard Fedora install. We'd also be less insulated
from possible breakage due to anaconda development, which from an overall
point of view is both good and bad.
In any case, I'd like to start running an image creation task automatically
nightly if possible.
What do the people actually running the builders think about this?

Introduction: Frank Murphy
by Frank Murphy
Hi I'm Frank,
Not a sysadmin, though have been asked to look after
app 100pc's for a school I once attended Win server 200*
Just run my home lan with Fedora real\virt.
Gave up college after 2nd semester.
Passed the Java practicals.
Failed all the written modules.
Would like to learn enough python\sql\trac\wiki
enough to help out on the backend of freemedia.
I find it hard to learn without an "example"
reading difficulties, and I definatly won't be writing books.
My brain actually reboots itself.
Just need enough to help out.

Fedora 18 Beta Freeze now in effect
by Kevin Fenzi
Greetings.
we are now in the infrastructure freeze leading up to the Fedora 18
Beta release. This is a pre-release freeze.
Please see:
https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-infrastructure/browser/architecture/Envir...
Anything in the Pre Release freeze box is frozen until 2012-11-06 (or
later if Beta further slips). This means there should be NO puppet
changes to any hosts in there (including global ones) without signoff
of the change from at least 2 folks in sysadmin-main and/or
release-engineering.
Thanks,
kevin

Introduction: Marc Deop
by Marc Deop Argemí
Hello everyone,
A while ago I joined the fi-apprentice group and tried to help a little bit. Unfortunatelly I had to deal with personal staff and wasn't able to focus enough.
I'd like to join back (for real this time ;) ).
I currently work as a system administrator in a small company and I am preparing to get a RHCSA
I have some knowledge in:
- bash scripting
- LAMP
- Nagios
- General linux adminstration
- Little java, c and c++ ( I've made small contributions to the rekonq browser http://rekonq.kde.org).
I know you guys use python quite a bit and I'm willing to learn as well :)
My irc nickname is marcdeop
Well, I think that's pretty much it.
Thanks in advance,
Marc

Home for fedocal
by Pierre-Yves Chibon
Hi all,
Several people have asked me where the fedocal project lives and where
they could test and report bugs and make RFE, so I'm glad to announce,
we found a home for fedocal:
https://fedorahosted.org/fedocal/
Note that I managed to get Johan Cwiklinski (fas: trasher) on board to
make of Márín's design [1] a reality (and he is already busy with that!)
So please, open as many tickets as you would like and let's see if we
can make something of fedocal :)
Thanks,
Pierre

Meeting Agenda Item: Introduction Terry Chia
by Terry Chia
Hi folks,
New to this project, hopefully i'll be able to contribute something useful.
I'll be looking around to see what types of projects I am interested in and
can actively contribute.
Still a student, so looking to gain some real world experience. I can
contribute some system administration work (just got my RHCSA), and am
quite familiar with python scripting.
My IRC nick will be ayrx. Hope to receive some guidance around here.
Thanks,
Terry
