Looking for GSoC Mentors

Greetings all,
At today's infrastructure meeting we talked briefly about what projects we
might be able to do for GSoC. Unfortunately we quickkly ran into the hard
reality of not having any core team members with the time to mentor for GSoC
at the meeting. So we're asking the list -- is there anyone here that has
the time to mentor GSoC students? Doing so is a commitment to help refine
the project initially, to review the applications to all of Fedora to select
the best ones, to answer questions that the student has, to keep track of
the student's progress (at least enough to give them a pass fail at the
midterm and final), to help the student figure out what features they can
cut if a project goes to long or let them know if they are falling behind.
We do have some interested candidates -- so please, register your interest
in mentoring and what general area of Fedora you'd be willing to mentor for.
Then students can start working with you to come up with a good project that
can help everyone.

First I think that mentoring mentioned by Toshio requires a structured
knowledge about projects fedora in the past.
Second need some experience in the implementation of environmental
objectives for the open source Google.
3rd assessment alone is not enough.
My attention, it is also a need for some kind of consultancy services.
In my case it is not, for example, python, but C / C + + - are still
opportunities to write additional modules etc.

backups

After a super-fun-time debacle restoring a single file today I'd like
to talk about our backups a bit.
Right now our backups are:
- bacula to a few central servers and then off to tape.
That seems like it is not scaling super-duper well for our size of disk
storage. It also seems like it is a wee bit cumbersome to use. :)
In the best of all possible infinite-money worlds I'd love to have
enough disk space to offer multiple snapshots of every filesystem
and/or a complete disk-to-disk copy with deduping (obnam) or with
reverse diffs (rdiff-backup). But let's assume that world is not likely
to exist and figure a few things out:
1. where are we backing up that we don't need to?
2. are there places that we can backup that really would benefit from
being a warmer-backup always available in a filesystem somewhere
3. Is there any good way to couple snapshots with our tape system to
make our backups a little simpler to deal with?
4. What level of bare metal-disaster-recovery do we actually HAVE with
our existing system and have we ever tested any of those cases?
I do not know when I will get the time to put into fixing any of these
things up - but after today it is clearly on my list of things to think
about.

Hello Everyone,
I'm Uditha Bandara Wijerathna from Kurunegala, Sri Lanka. I'm currently an
Ambassador, Bugzapper and Freemedia member. As an ambassador, I've done so
many events all around Sri Lanka. Also I've participated FUDCon 2012 KL as
a speaker and gave some talks including 'Fedora security best practices'.
I'm using linux for almost 12 years and Also I'm a part-time linux system
engineer. Also I'm certified as RHCE (Currently working on RHCSS and RHCDS)
and I'm pretty familiar with Mail servers, Web servers, Linux security and
Networking. I have thorough idea about Linux Kernel and Linux diver
development and done some device driver hacking :)
In development areas, I'm good at C/C++/Python and little bit Java. On free
time, I'm enjoying helping people in #fedora IRC channel.

Meeting Agenda Item: Introduction Harish Ved

Hello,
I am Harish Ved and I am an undergraduate student from India.
I am very interested in working with Fedora community and I intend to
undertake the project of 'Deploying GitLab for fedorahosted.org' as my GSOC
project.
I have had some past non-open-source project experience in php, javascript
and ruby. I can work with C, C++, java. I would like to join the
infrastructure team and since I don't have any past experience of working
with fedora, I would appreciate any help that would allow me to contribute
to fedora.
