Deleting old AMIs in AWS

FYI I plan to continue in AWS cleanup on Friday. I waited till Freeze is over - just to be safe. And now I want to delete the old AMIs. Likely in several waves. Going from oldest to ~2021. In this step I plan to keep the associated snapshots. So if I break something we can still restore the AMI. BTW - quick summary where we are with the cleanup stuff: * all VM, volumes have tag FedoraGroup * all gp2 volumes are migrated to gp3 * All AMIs with name 'Fedora-AtomicHost-*' are deleted. Fedora 41 Final Freeze now in effect!

Greetings. we are now in the infrastructure freeze leading up to the Fedora 41 Final release. This is a final release freeze. We do this to ensure that our infrastructure is stable and ready to release Fedora 41 when it's available. You can see a list of hosts that do not freeze by checking out the ansible repo and running the freezelist script: git clone https://infrastructure.fedoraproject.org/infra/ansible.git ansible/scripts/freezelist -i inventory Any hosts listed as freezes is frozen until 2024-10-30 (or later if release slips). Frozen hosts should have no changes made to them without a sign-off on the change from at least 2 sysadmin-main or rel-eng members, along with (in most cases) a patch of the exact change to be made to this list and/or a pull-request to the infra/ansible repo. Here's a bit about me and what I hope to contribute and learn:Skills I Bring:Systems Administration: I have extensive experience as a Systems Administrator, Network Engineer, and Site Reliability/Platform Engineer, working mainly with Linux environments. I specialize in open-source technologies and have expertise in managing homelab and organizational setups, including automation, server management, and containerization.Programming: I am proficient in Ruby, Bash scripting, and have experience with Python and Go. I'd like to get +1's to run: ansible -m mount -a 'state=absent path=/srv/odcs' builders We retired the odcs service and removed it from ansible, but we didn't go and remove the exiting mount on builders. It's not causing any problems (it's just retrying and failing forever), but it would be nice to clean up. kevin

Hello team, I now realized that we have these files: files/aws/iam/policies/ files/aws/iam/policies/fcos-builds-releng.json files/aws/iam/policies/robosignatory-fcos-devel.json files/aws/iam/policies/fcos-upload-amis.json files/aws/iam/policies/fedora-infra-ec2.json files/aws/iam/policies/fedora-centos-ec2.json files/aws/iam/policies/fcos-poc-artifacts.json files/aws/iam/policies/fedora-copr-ec2.json These seem to be some initial copies of the policy file, and are probably staled. I'm curious whether we are interested in making the policies maintained from batcave - via IAM API. If so, I think I could help with the ansible.git changes (but I think I'd need more EC2 privileges to tweak the policies). Pavel

AWS AMI sharing quota reached (impossible to push CentOS STream 10 images)

Hi, I just created ticket https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure/issue/12237 (for awareness/visibility), itself a downstream ticket of https://issues.redhat.com/browse/CS-2561) It seems that we reached the AWS quota wrt number of shared AMI. I had a *very* quick look at the regions mentioned in ticket and I see Fedora CoreOS (mainly) has very old AMI that don't seem to be deleted/cleaned up (or just unshared at least) Is there a way to ensure that all team pushing AMI to AWS various regions would also have a max of shared images, and also unshare (or better, remove entirely as there is another quota for number of AMI images per account) such AMIs ? To unblock CentOS Stream deliveries (as I got confirmation it's impacting also Stream 9 images now), I intent (if no reaction in this thread and/or infra ticket) to just delete the very old Fedora CoreOS AMIs next Monday -- Fabian Arrotin gpg key: 17F3B7A1
