So, does anyone see any problems or objections to just removing download.fedora.redhat.com from dns?
It's been replaced with dl.fedoraproject.org for a long time. It causes ssl cert issues (see https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-infrastructure/ticket/3118 ) There were some references to it on the wiki, but I cleaned those up.
Can anyone think of anything that would break if we just remove this and announce to the mirror list it's gone?

Fedora 9 was the last release that reference d.f.r.c in its yum repo files (commented out mind you; default was using mirrorlists). Do we get many requests for F9 yet?

You might want to make a wider-spread announcement than that, but I can't think of anything that would break other than bad habits (including my own).
Some more data:
- Fedora media had download.fedora.redhat.com urls on them until around f13 or f14 on media holders, etc.
- Internally to RH download.fedora.redhat.com resolves to internal IP's for the dl.fedoraproject.org download servers. This may result in RH folks getting a faster/different network path than if they used dl.fedoraproject.org.
We can get around this second issue by simply asking RHIT to drop the external dns entry and keep the internal one or point it to more local mirrors for folks.

However, internal people using MM get sent to local mirrors which should be even faster, so if that breaks, it's not a huge deal.

Yeah, this would be those people that use download.fedora.redhat.com for whatever reason. ;)
I guess my thought right now is:
- Ask that it be removed from external dns. People should learn to use dl.fedoraproject.org (or the download.fedoraproject.org mm one).
- Internally to Red Hat, I don't care if it continues to exist in it's current form (pointing to internal addresses for dl.fedoraproject.org).
I'll file a ticket asking for this soon unless someone shouts. ;)

I've filed a ticket to have this done. ;)
