Unable to Login
by Isaac Christoffersen
I've installed katello on a clean RHEL 6.1 install using yum install
katello-all.
Next, I ran katello-configure. When I try to login into the katello web
console with admin/admin I get taken back to the login screen. The same
thing happens when I login with a bogus username/password.
I don't see anything in the katello, tomcat6, candlepin logs that seem
to point to what is going on. I've also run the cpsetup and
katello-reset-db scripts, but have gotten the same results.
What am I missing? Is there another log I should be looking at for
troubleshooting?
thanks,
Isac

New Install - Unable to Login
by Isaac Christoffersen
I have a clean RHEL 6 install. I've run yum install katello-all and
then katello-configure, but when I get to the login screen and enter
the default user/password, I get taken back to the login screen.
I've tried a few things now such as cpsetup and katello-reset-dbs, but
same results. Nothing interesting in the catalina.out log or katello
logs.
Using a bogus username/password gives me the same result.
So what am I missing? Can someone point me in the right direction of
where to look for troubleshooting.
thanks,
Isaac

May be worth reaching out here to see if the new UIs will meet the
customers conerns.

hi Brian
I have 2 large customers doing that ... with pain for them and for
me :-)
1st of all , I made them aware that Satellite is a technical tool
mainly, so not designed for administrative management of subscription.
It gives a technical translation of what a subscription is.
I brief them to continue to use a mix of RHN information (now CSP) and
Satellite information to get a view on how subs are used.
in CSP they know what they bought and related timeframe.
in Satellite,
- 1st, I explained how translation between subs and sat entitlement is
or was done :
RHEL AP -> cluster entitlement
-> unlimited VM = 100 ent's / 1 + 100 ent's (phy/flex)
RHEL -> 4 entitlements / 1 + 4 entitlements (py/flex)
What is flex (if there)
RHEL for VMware -> 4 entitlements
RHEL AP for VMware -> 10 entitlements
....
I have an explanation how all this appears in Sat certificate. It is
relatively easy to indeed derive "Satellite Entitlements" from
"Purchased usbscription" ..... but the reverse calculation "satellite
entitlements" -> "purchased subscription" is probably impossible to
do ...
- use spacewalk-report inventory to get the list of machines with all
info
- use spacewalk-report entitlements to see consumed / free entitlments
Then it depends on the case and what the customer wants to have as
information.
In the old RHEL subscription model (rhel /rhel AP based), I wrote a
script to analyze the content of the CSV file generated by the inventory
report , and derive , based on geography information (present in the sat
orgs) , the number of AS/ES type of RHEL.
| FR_ | BE_ | DE_ | UK_ | CZ_ | NADC | ...
|AS ES |AS ES |AS ES |AS ES |AS ES |AS ES |
|16 384 |52 469 |138 405 |45 348 |0 11 |90 234 |
|6 15 |2 13 |0 5 |9 41 |0 0 |0 3 |rhel3
|0 1 |0 1 |0 0 |0 4 |0 0 |3 1 |prov module
|0 1 |0 0 |0 0 |0 4 |0 0 |0 1 |proxies
Total RHEL3 | 94
Total Prov modules | 11
| Total Proxies | 7
In the new business model, I am more at a loss - as I know we are not
able to easily differentiate 1-4-Unlimit Virtual guests easily from phy
instances (when on vmware) nor match the nber of physical sockets. So
very hard to match the purchased stuff vs the used/deployed stuff....
Fragmented information is all what Satellite can give (entitlement
consumption with report entitlements option.).
There are 2 BZs related to enhance our report capabilities with regards
to the new model .
and right also, one of the customer is pissed off by the lack of
administrative readable view for a non technical guy , in satellite
webui ...

New Foreman Release
by Ohad Levy
So, its been a long time, and finally we got a new foreman release :)
Download - http://theforeman.org/foreman-latest.tar.bz2
RPMS http://yum.theforeman.org
DEB - http://deb.theforeman.org
Some of this version highlights:
* New UI that doesn't SUCK.
* host groups can now be nested
* hostgroups can now act as a as templates, including VM attributes etc.
* Introducing Smart Variables
* Most of Foreman_configuration has been moved into the UI itself,
this does not require a restart every time you change something, only
core settings remain in the settings file.
* audit log now capture class assignments
* Solaris (sparc and intel) provisioning support
* OpenSUSE provisioning support
* BMC NIC management
* Introducing Foreman CLI
* Many API improvements
* added rundeck integration
* dhcp subnets can now be imported via the proxy
Smart Proxy version
In order to use provisioning support with this version of Foreman, you
are required to* update your proxy* to the latest 0.3 release.
Ruby 1.87 support
Foreman 0.4 would be the last major version supporting Ruby older then 1.87.
This has to be done since the upstream rails community no longer
supports older versions, which means that critical security patches
are no longer available if we keep supporting that.
if required, we would release 0.4.x maintenance releases, but since
ruby 1.87+ is available on most distribution these days, you are
encouraged to upgrade.
All in all, this version has around 180 features/bugs fixed, so its
our largest so far - full details at [1]
Full release notes [2]
We've also added another means of communications (besides IRC and
mailing lists, Google+ page [3])
I would like to thank anyone who contributed to the project, I'm
having lots of fun :-)

F16 is coming, F14 ending
by Mike McCune
Just a heads up that F14 is ending the lifecycle of its support.
This means that future builds of Katello will be moving to F15 and F16
and EL6 only. We will leave the F14 repositories available for 30 days
while people transition to newer versions of Fedora but don't expect any
new F14 builds after:

unable to login after db switch to pgsql
by Marcus Moeller
Hi all.
I have switched the katello db from sqlite3 to postresql (as after
latest update sqlite is no longer supported by default).
Afterwards I have done a katello-reset-dbs and am no longer able to log
in using admin/admin.
Is there a way to reset the admin pw?
