Puppet required?
by Avram Lubkin
I was looking over the project and it looks interesting, much improved over
Spacewalk. I particularly like how different projects are used instead of
one monolithic project. There's just one thing that concerns me. It looks
like if I want to do provisioning I have to use Foreman and if I use
Foreman I have to use Puppet. Since Puppet requires ruby installed on all
clients I can't deploy it. This is due to a security requirement. I can't
add interpreters to a system unless I have a good justification. I can do
what puppet does without adding another interpreter, so I can't justify it.
I know there are lots of organizations that use puppet and probably install
Ruby to support it, but I've never worked with a group that would allow
that. Any plans to support CFengine or something similar that wouldn't
require another interpreter on the clients? Python is Okay too, since any
RHEL or RHEL-like system already has it.
Please reply all, not on the list.
Thanks,
Avram

New location of yum repo
by Miroslav Suchý
Hi Katello users and developers,
I'm pleased to announce new location of our yum repos:
http://fedorapeople.org/groups/katello/releases/
Install wiki:
https://fedorahosted.org/katello/wiki/Install
is updated to point to this new location.
Those packages are build using our new Koji instance. Unfortunately it
does not have public interface, but we are working to make this Koji public.
Those repositories even contains Katello for Fedora17, but it is not
working and it is intended only for developers for testing.
Right now there is mainly repository "nightly" which is - contradictory
to its name - updated 4 times per day. If you are developer and your
contribution is merged, just run:
tito tag && git push && git push --tags
and within several hours your new package will land in nightly repo.
This step will be hopefully soon followed by first community release of
Katello.
Enjoy and stay tuned.

Revamped installer landed nightly build
by Lukas Zapletal
Hello all,
revamped installer finally hit nightly build during last weekend.
Installation instructions changed a bit, have a look:
https://fedorahosted.org/katello/wiki/Install
Please report all issues using
# katello-debug
tool (bugzilla component "installer"). There are some known issues with
SELinux and Pulp both on Fedoras and RHELs - if you will hit those
issues (Pulp server does not come up therefore katello database seed
fails) turn off enforcing mode for some time. Also make sure you have
all updates applied on Fedora 16.

Testing Katello build installation failure
by Lukas Zapletal
Hello,
currently Pulp team is rolling out big changes towards version 2.0.
Katello testing build uses testing pulp repo, but from this week there
is incompatible version of pulp there.
Installation fails since pulp package was renamed to pulp-server. But if
you would change require statement in our katello package, it would not
work due to API changes.
To install katello testing installation against pulp v1 disable repo
named [pulp-testing]:
vim /yum/repos.d/pulp-testing.repo
And continue with install. We will be integrating Pulp V2 changes soon.

katello sync issue
by joshi dhaval
Hi,i have created product in katello and added repository did sync and promote, it worked, then again i have added new repo in same product did sycn and did promote, what i have observe is at the directory in pulp i saw some links are pointing to other location that links are not properly created ( some thing like ../../../../../../../local/.. ./env/product/reponame/ )
in original katello installation it gets installed under /var/lib/pulp but we have created link here to point it to /local/0/opt/pulp .... is it that;s the reason for links not getting created properly
Basically I have created link for /var/lib/pulp to different location, looks code for creating links misbehaving
2) if i have created 1 repo, promoted it and later realize that i dont want to use this repo and just delete repo, what i observe is on client machine i have created redhat.repos which still points to this repo even i have deleted it using UI ( tried restarting rhsmcertd ).
Thanks.
