Puppet required?
by Avram Lubkin
I was looking over the project and it looks interesting, much improved over
Spacewalk. I particularly like how different projects are used instead of
one monolithic project. There's just one thing that concerns me. It looks
like if I want to do provisioning I have to use Foreman and if I use
Foreman I have to use Puppet. Since Puppet requires ruby installed on all
clients I can't deploy it. This is due to a security requirement. I can't
add interpreters to a system unless I have a good justification. I can do
what puppet does without adding another interpreter, so I can't justify it.
I know there are lots of organizations that use puppet and probably install
Ruby to support it, but I've never worked with a group that would allow
that. Any plans to support CFengine or something similar that wouldn't
require another interpreter on the clients? Python is Okay too, since any
RHEL or RHEL-like system already has it.
Please reply all, not on the list.
Thanks,
Avram

You end up with misconfugred Katello, so you need to run
katello-configure --reset-data=YES

Ruby on Rails XML security issue
by Lukas Zapletal
A flaw identified by CVE-2013-0156 was found in parameter parsing in
Ruby on Rails. The Ruby on Rails delivered in Fedora 16, 17 and RHEL6
are affected because we do not disable XML parameter parser in Katello.
The issue is attackers ability to specify POST parameters in XML format,
which Ruby on Rails supports in addition to query string and JSON
format.
The best workaround is to disable XML param parsing feature entirely. To
do this, place the following snippet inside the application initializer:
ActionDispatch::ParamsParser::DEFAULT_PARSERS.delete(Mime::XML)
If you installed Katello od Fedora 16 or 17, wait until update is ready
and immediately update the system. At the moment packages are being
submitted for delivery:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=893281
If you installed Katello on RHEL6, wait until we update rails packages
and then update the system. You can remove the workaround after update.

Thanks for the info!
But it fails to run:
puppet apply foreman_proxy_installer.pp --modulepath
/usr/share/foreman-installer
warning: Could not find class foreman::params for deploy.netbulae.mgmt
Could not find class foreman::params in namespaces puppet::params at

foreman smart proxy
by Jorick Astrego
Hi,
For the dhcp/dns/tftp services of Katello I think I need to deploy the
foreman smart proxy.
I cannot find any documentation about it so I decided to just install
the foreman-proxy-installer available. After installation I cannot start
the proxy as port 8443 is already in use. It is used by tomcat6.
I can change the port in settings.yml, but where do I tell Katello to
use another port for connecting to the smart proxy?

Help with running katello.auto
by Liu, Kevin
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has tried the katello.auto GUI automation package on Github. I downloaded the binary and tried to run it with the commands listed but got an error back indicating that the main class could not be loaded/found. I am not familiar with Clojure but I have also tried running from source with leiningen which results in a similar error. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin Liu

reporting issues
by Jorick Astrego
Hi,
After getting katello 1.2 running, I would like to test the new version
in parallel on another machine. I normally do this with opensource
software to make sure everything will work in the future and to find
bugs the developers may have missed.
I already provisioned a machine with the latest nightly but run into an
installer error.
My question is now, do you want feedback on issues with the latest
nightly build? Or should I just try the next day to see if it's fixed?
I am not a developer but an admin so Git is a bit overkill for me at the
moment.
If the reporting of issues is wanted, how would I best submit them? I
noticed you closed the issue functionality on github already ;-)

Got it, I specified it as "Netbulae B.V." and that was the problem.
Everything ok now, thanks!
