worst release ever?
by Neal Becker
I hate to say it, but at this point (4.2rc1) this is the least stable kde I've
seen. kmail is now crashing repeatably. Akonadi crashes every time I open my
calendar. I hope it's not released like this.

Kmail not able to use quotes in mail [solved]
by Petrus de Calguarium
Once again, a very bizarre default setting that had me stumped for weeks.
It turns out that all of the inboxes for all of my email addresses were set
to use custom templates, and these all had the value %blank. Also, in the
main Kmail setup, the standard templates were also all set to %blank, so I
had to click 'default' to get the correct values filled in.
Now quotes work as in previous versions of kde. I never set these that way;
it is how they installed when I did a clean install of f10 alpha back in
September and then it upgraded itself to f10 in November.

Kmail puts sent mail into Inbox [solved]
by Petrus de Calguarium
I got a response from bugs.kde. Although I have used kmail since the mid-90s
and have never had to fiddle with it, it turns out that in kde4, one has to
explicitly unset the 'keep replies in this folder' option for each inbox
folder one had (I have one for each identity/email address). It now works
great. I have tested fro both replies and forwarding.
Unfortunately, quotes still don't work.
Other than these minor glitches, this kde4 has already shown itself to be
*the best ever*.

kmail crashes
by Zoltan Ligeti
after upgrading from kde 4.2beta to kde4.2rc1 yesterday (under fedora 10),
kmail started to crash with signal 11 after opening the main window, while
trying to access my mail from an imap server. this was not a problem with
the 4.2beta version.
has this been seen by others? any suggestions to fix this?
thanks, zoltan

Systemsettings crash after click on display
by Florian Sievert
Hi,
I am running KDE 4.2RC1 and just noticed that "systemsettings" is
crashing without any note, when I click on "Display" in the general
section. Everything else seems to work fine. Can anyone confirm a
problem with it? The system is using the fglrx driver, so I won't be
suprised if the driver is messing up, when the modul is asking for
xrandr information. So maybe anyone can confirm this, so we can get it
upstream before release.
Best regards,
Florian

KDE4.*.*
by Robert Karge
I'm having problems learning how to add or change functions.
First things first. I have caused the disappearance or all panels.
When I attempt to add a panel and start over the new panel will only go to
the top of the screen.
How do I get one on the bottom of the page?
The only other problem is how do I, without selecting defaults somewhere,
recreate the panel at the bottom of the screen and with the various items in
the panel as it appears out of the box.
My system is Fedora 10_64 on an ASUS P5Q mother board. Intel Core 2 at
3.0GHz with 8Gb of ram. 500 Gb SATA harddrive.
Thanks for the help.

Re: kde-4.1.96 (4.2-rc1) -> kde-redhat/unstable
by Petrus de Calguarium

Same here. No crashes, lots of bugs fixed. In fact, I have Desktop Effects
enabled, using OpenGL and have had no problems yet today!!! No more "too many
open files in system messages" yet and all has been working great (well,
khotkeys and festival still don't work, and kmail still sends outgoing mail to
my inbox instead of to smtp, but a simple resend of the inbox copy *does* send
it). All in all, there are few problems left, and they are minor ones.

Updates broken on RHEL5
by Jeffrey D Anderson
For a month or two updates on systems with kde-redhat (3.5.10-2) on RHEL5 have
been broken due to new versions of gnokii and libdvdnav in EPEL.
Here's what I get:
%> yum update
...
...
Error: Missing Dependency: libgnokii.so.3 is needed by package kdepim
Error: Missing Dependency: libdvdread.so.3 is needed by package k3b
Apparently k3b and kdepim rely on older versions of libgnokii and libdvdread
than are provided by the current EPEL, so updates fail unless I disable EPEL,
or explicitly disable gnokii and libdvdread from the updates. I can do that,
but I wonder if there is a cleaner way? It would be ok with me to just
remove gnokii, but it is a prerequisite for kdepim.
