latest kde-redhat (F-10) updates
by Rex Dieter
Whew. OK, here we go...
cliff's notes version:
testing updates
* should address most known qt-4.5 issues
* shrink default akonadi db footprint (~140mb->28mb)
unstable updates include mostly additional pkg splits, in particular
* akonadi: should be able to have an akonadi-free kde runtime now
(unless, of course, you actually install akonadi-using/linking apps,
like kdepim)
* PyQt4 (python): most of the way to to be able to have a PyQt4-free
kde desktop. Still TODO: split bits out of kdeutils
* kdebase-workspace-googlegadgets: (optional) googlegadget support

Kmail Classic Theme
by Eli Wapniarski
Hi
I just wondered if someone can confirm this for me before I file a bug report.
If I switch themes to "Classic", I don't see any fonts in the mail list box.

Re: Random Lockups Anyone?
by Kyle
Hello,
The random lock ups on laptops w/ intel drivers is a known bug.
Here is the bug report:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=465884
Symptoms include keyboard lock ups, mouse still active but cannot
click or select anything, only way to reboot or shutdown is to hold down
the power button. Version 2.5 of the intel driver has the fix. I tried
compiling it against my kernel and it did not work. I tried this method:
- make a new dir /usr/local/xorg as root
- dowloaded http://xorg.freedesktop.org/archive/...-2.5.0.tar.bz2
- use ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/xorg, make , make install
- Configured xorg.conf to allow to use custom compiled modules to keep old libs as it was:
Section "Files"
ModulePath "/usr/local/xorg/lib/xorg/modules/"
ModulePath "/usr/lib64/xorg/modules"
FontPath "catalogue:/etc/X11/fontpath.d"
FontPath "built-ins"
EndSection
When I was trying to find the error for this bug I had to ssh into my
machine and look at the Xorg log. If you reboot or hard power off I
think the log will not have the error. I suggest you guys add
yourselves to the bug list so we can get a fix.

File a bug against what?
by Anne Wilson
I want to file a report concerning slowness and transitory freezes, on the
Acer Aspire One. I have some observations that need to be passed on.
However, I'm unsure about the component choice. I thought it would be kwin,
but that's not an option. It's definitely a graphics rendering problem, so
which component do I choose?

KRecipes goes kaput
by Tejas Dinkar
KRecipes doesn't seem to work for me (at all) on fedora 10.
krecipes-0.9.1-9.fc9.i386
As it doesn't seem to work /at all/, I suspect it is a dependency (on
qt3.3 or sqlite) error (thus the gap in the backtrace, thought I have
sqlite-devel installed)
Note: the app doesn't have a dependency (as per rpm) on qt3-sqlite, and
I don't have it installed (of course, installing it doesn't change
anything, I already tried :)
Here is the backtrace:
Application: Krecipes (krecipes), signal SIGABRT

Random Lockups Anyone?
by Tejas Dinkar
Does anyone else have this issue of X suddenly locking up at Random
Things?
I'm not sure if it's a bug with my Graphics Driver (probably is), but it
only seems to happen in KDE, and never with GNOME (even with Desktop
Effects off)
My symtoms are that KDE (and X in general) suddenlly locks up. The mouse
may be moved for a few seconds. If I try sshing in and killing X, or
pressing the power button to shut down, then my caps lock button starts
blinking (Kernel Panic). Since KDE 4.2, the frequency with which these
lock ups happen is going up.
Does anyone know what might be wrong/a workaround?
I'm using a
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)
rpm -q xorg-x11-drv-i810 kdelibs kdebase-workspace kdebase-runtime
xorg-x11-drv-i810-2.5.0-4.fc10.i386
kdelibs-4.2.0-10.fc10.i386
kdebase-workspace-4.2.0-8.fc10.i386
kdebase-runtime-4.2.0-6.fc10.i386

Changing plasma theme
by Jeremy Sanders
Again, is it just me, or is the desktop theme configuration tool completely broken?
Firstly it is hidden under non-intuitively under "Advanced Desktop Settings."
Secondly, If I try to change the theme (choosing from the drop down list at the top left) it
doesn't enable the Apply button at the bottom.
If I try to change one of the individual elements, the apply button is enabled,
but it pops up a message box saying "To change your desktop theme to
"(Customized)" open Desktop Settings and select "(Customized)" from the
droplist. It then doesn't actually change anything.
It looks like KDE 4.2 sucks in Fedora 10 rather a lot more than I thought it would,
especially as compared with KDE 4.1.
Apologies if the formatting is broken, but Knode pastes text in an extremely strange unformatted way... yet another bug report I feel.
