xorg crashes with display sytem settings module

Hi, When I click on the "Display" module in system settings, Xorg crashes. While I can remote log in afterwards, I need ot reboot to get the display to reactivate. (Also tried going to init 3 and back to init 5, tried killing the X process by hand, but neither worked.) kdelibs-4.2.0-15.fc10.x86_64 kdebase-workspace-4.2.0-10.fc10.x86_64 kdebase-runtime-4.2.0-7.fc10.x86_64 qt-4.4.3-10.fc10.x86_64 qt-4.4.3-10.fc10.i386 xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.5.3-13.fc10.x86_64 xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.10.0-2.fc10.x86_64 I am using the open source ATI driver on a X1650 Pro video card connected to a Samsung 2243BWX monitor; same results with Samsung 2253BW as well. On my i386 laptop, with similar packages on an R300, I have no issues. Regards, Ravi

A rough week greatly rewarded

This last week resulted in kmail no longer being able to display mails, crashing instead of closing, firefox displaying pages so large that it would have taken an entire wall to read it, knode was unusable, pulse didn't emit a peep, the device notifier didn't mount anything, rendering external drives usless... in short, I was close to not being able to use the system at all for close to a week (thank God for konqueror, that got me through with painful browsing and webmail), and then, on Sunday, I managed to pluck kde-4.2.1 from koji and all these problems have totally vanished! Yes, Fedora is GOOD. [Sure, the weather plasmoid still doesn't remember my location and kernel- based mode setting still doesn't work on Intel, input actions still don't work and kttsd still crashes... but that's about all I have to complain about.]

quick launch applet

I really missed the quicklaunch applet and was glad to discover it had been ported when I opened the widget list recently. It seemed to work fine, although lacking some features but, I think I've isolated it as the cause of frequent Plasma crashes, which ultimately led to my not being able to open plasma at all. After deleting all the plasma config files in .kde/share/config plasma came back in its default config, but now, whenever I try to add the quicklaunch applet to the new panel, plasma immediately crashes then reopens with much of my other configuration lost, and quicklaunch not added. Anyone else getting this? -- Claude Jones Brunswick, MD

kde alpha slow

Hello KDE Sig It has been reported to me several times this week, that the KDE alpha livecd boots very slowly. I have tried it and confirm under 512mb RAM) that after plymouth it takes more than 30 minutes to get the KDE desktop in place, before the installation could start. The installation takes again another 30 minutes. This concerns me because the FEL Livedvd is KDE based and I use it as a marketing means for FEL apps which are desktop-environment independent. Will we see improvements in this boot time for f11 beta ? My main target is to use FEL Livedvd during a presentation + beamer. If the boot time is so long, KDE here does not meet my needs. I would like to hear your views and insurance about it. Kind regards, chitlesh

Building koffice

Hello I'm trying to build koffice (kplato in particular) on my machine (latest packages from fedora10). I'm doing any kde related compilation for the first time. Doing everything according to this: http://wiki.koffice.org/index.php?title=Building/Building_KOffice kplato binary is created, but when running it with: export KDEDIRS=$KDEDIRS:/home/tomas/kde4/install export PATH=$PATH:/home/tomas/kde4/install/bin ./bin/kplato I'm just getting: kplato(16218)/koffice (lib komain) KoDocumentEntry::createDoc: "" And that's it. During build process I see suspicious lines complaining about missing package CreateResources: -- Found Qt-Version 4.4.3 (using /usr/bin/qmake-qt4) -- Found X11: /usr/lib/libX11.so -- Phonon Version: 4.3.0 -- Found KDE 4.2 include dir: /usr/include/kde4 -- Found KDE 4.2 library dir: /usr/lib/kde4/devel -- Found the KDE4 kconfig_compiler4 preprocessor: /usr/bin/kconfig_compiler4 -- Found automoc4: /usr/bin/automoc4 -- Found lcms version 1.17, /usr/lib/liblcms.so -- Could NOT find CreateResources (missing: CREATERESOURCES_INCLUDE_DIR) -- Create Resources will be required in the final release ... Can somebody show me correct direction? What is that "CreateResources package" and how do I get it? Google was unable to help me with this CreateResources thing as well as with message when executing kplato. Thank you! -- Tomas Straupis
