Random system paralysis in f10

Hi: I know f10 has gone EOL but I'm still running it until I 'finish'
my parallel install of f12. The f10 system has the kde 4.3.3 packages
from f10 updates, and I don't think I saw this problem before they were
installed - but I also recently added a 1TB sdb, upgraded to mythtv 0.22
and began regular use of ProjectX under java (from Sun).
Usually things work as expected, but there is a problem. The paralysis
usually occurs when both sda and sdb are being accessed, sometimes quite
intensively; things progressively stop working as I switch windows, and
I can't shut down and do a normal reboot because several devices say
they are busy. The only way out seems to be to switch off. On reboot
everything has, so far, been ok, but dvb recordings that were in
progress aren't properly closed.
I've always had Konqueror open, with tabs showing the recordings folders
on the two drives, when this has happened. Today it was apparently
precipitated by opening the second tab. I'm wondering if I've hit a
Konqueror bug, or if I may have a BIOS/sdb mismatch. Any ideas?
Perhaps I should try Dolphin again.

User disk mounting

Hi - Using dolphin I (or any user) can click on an unmounted system disk (an
internal SATA drive, with a hard disk icon) and it is mounted without any
passwords with a single click. This is Fedora 12 x86-64.
I can't see why this should be enabled by default from the polkit
configuration:

If it's an internal disk, I would have thought filesystem-mount-system-
internal was the appropriate option, but this is set to auth_admin_keep
which should pop up a dialog box asking for a password.
Is there another setting I should be looking at?

List of kde configuration options available?

Why is kleopatra using pinentry-gtk2 and why doesn't it work for me?

Hi,
today I wanted to import a new x.509 cert into kleopatra and it didn't show
the pinentry dialog. pinentry-gtk2 was launched and was using 100% CPU but it
didn't do anything useful. Just for fun I removed pinentry-gtk2, but then
kleopatra immediately complained that it was unable to decrypt the cert.
I checked kwatchgnupg and the logs showed a little hint to the problem.

Looks to me like /usr/libexec/gpg-protect-tool is just choosing the wrong
pinentry executable. It should just call /usr/bin/pinentry which should call
the correct pinentry-qt4/gtk2/whatever.
With pinentry-gtk2 removed, I started pinentry and it called pinentry-qt4.
So there are two problems:
a) why does pinentry-gtk2 get stuck?
b) why isn't pinentry-qt4 called by gpg-protect-tool?
Is this working for anyone with kde 4.3.90?

Today after updating PackageKit to 0.5.6-1.fc12 kpackagekit started to function
again with relevant updates displayed and no chrashes when pressing "refresh".
Seems that the problem was not in kpackagekit but rather in PackageKit.

f12 firefox displays text "broken up"

I have recently noticed that if I have firefox partially covered by
another window and then scroll the display in ff w/o focusing on it that
the text lines sometimes gets broken up in horizontal strips when it
comes out from under the window over top.
I have seen this with KDE and free ATI driver on one system and on a
gnome system with free nvidia ion driver. It seems worst on gnome/nvidia
system. Both use the same monitor.
When the ff window is totally exposed the text is fine.
Didn't see anything about this in a quick look at rh bugzilla.
Also, never saw this with f11.

Kontact/Akonadi is disastrous on 4.3.85

First kontact would not start at all. This seems to be due to the fact that
it was seeking a non-existent folder, /home/anne/.local/share/Local, IIRC.
Pointing this to my local mail directory allowed Kontact to start, but I've
since been told that that is a bad idea - and I haven't been told what I
should do about it.
Then I discovered that my addressbook was empty. I replaced the file from a
backup, restarted everything, but still couldn't see any addresses. Exploring
the Akonadi setup I confirmed that it was pointing to the correct file. In
the end I added a new Resource, pointing it to the same file. All my
addresses were now visible and I thought I had won. Not so. Today I needed
to add a phone number. Edit opened a blank form - none of the existing
details showing. You could type into a field, but saving it made no
difference. The new item didn't show. Now, some hours later, Edit is working
and I can add the phone number.
During that time I have kept getting spells of seeing Kontact use more than
50% CPU, forcing the total to 99-100%, so that I had to shut it down. Several
times. I can only assume that it's Akonadi trying to organise the data, but
it has simply made it unusable. Unless these issues can be resolved there are
going to be some major screams.
