4.4 - Nepomuk Indexing Agents Have Been Disabled
by Garry Williams
After installing kde 4.4 from updates-testing, I got the "Nepomuk
Indexing Agents Have Been Disabled" message.
I followed the suggestions regarding stopping, removing the nepomuk
directory, but still no joy.
I saw this starting nepomukserver from a console:
[/usr/bin/nepomukservicestub] nepomukstorage(4955)/nepomuk (storage service) Nepomuk::Repository::open: Previous backend: "redland" - new backend: "virtuosobackend"

(Soprano::Redland::BackendPlugin) creating model of type "hashes" with options "hash-type='bdb',contexts='yes',dir='/home/garry/.kde/share/apps/nepomuk/repository/main/data/redland',new='yes'"
"/usr/bin/nepomukservicestub(4955)" Error in thread 3077715840 : "storage: BDB V4.1+ open of '/home/garry/.kde/share/apps/nepomuk/repository/main/data/redland/soprano-sp2o.db' failed - No such file or directory (error)"

"/usr/bin/nepomukservicestub(4955)" Error in thread 3077715840 : "storage: BDB V4.1+ open of '/home/garry/.kde/share/apps/nepomuk/repository/main/data/redland/soprano-sp2o.db' failed - No such file or directory (error)"
Just for grins, I did:
$ mv /home/garry/.kde/share/apps/nepomuk/repository/main/data/virtuosobackend /home/garry/.kde/share/apps/nepomuk/repository/main/data/redland
$ nepomukserver
That fixed things.
Where are these paths configured?

Konqueror backend
by Anne Wilson
A while back, after reading about Konqueror being capable of running with
either khtml or webkit backends, I decided to switch to webkit as an
experiment. I've seen no problems, and in fact reported display problems (the
new kde.org website was said to have problems in konqueror) just don't seem to
occur here.
Is there any downside to using webkit with konqueror? I haven't noticed one.
I can't even remember how I managed to change it, so I couldn't change back if
I wanted to.

Instability after updates
by Anne Wilson
I was under the impression that most of our problems with SC 4.4 had been
overcome, as my system had been stable and showing few of the delay problems
seen earlier, so I was somewhat shocked yesterday evening, when I started
having problems after updating. There appeared to be some thrashing going on
somehwere, and the system slowed down to the unusable. Eventually I gave in
and rebooted (I had rebooted after the update, since a kernel update was
involved). After that the thrashing had stopped, but I'm back to seeing
delays when sending from KMail - not as bad as the earlier problem, but still
enough to be annoying.

I also appear to have lost the ability to print, either to the local USB
printer or the wifi-attached HP mfp. I'm not sure when this happened, though,
as I don't recall printing anything for almost a week. I'll try to sort that
out later today, perhaps by removing the printers from hplip and re-installing
them.
Is there anything else I can sensibly test?
