KDE SC 4.4.4 packages available for testing
by Kevin Kofler
Hi everyone,
KDE SC 4.4.4 packages for Fedora 11, 12 and 13 are now available for
testing.
For Fedora 12 and 13, KDE SC 4.4.4 is available in the official updates-
testing repository.
For Fedora 11, we have decided not to push 4.4.4 as an official update due
to the imminent end of life (EOL) of Fedora 11. Several KDE SIG members
believe it is too risky to push such an update so shortly before EOL because
we would be unable to push further updates if any issues come up. However,
we have decided to make KDE SC 4.4.4 for Fedora 11 available through the
kde-redhat repositories. KDE SC 4.4.4 for Fedora 11 is now being uploaded to
the kde-redhat testing repository and will be AVAILABLE from KDE-REDHAT
TESTING in about 20 minutes. We hope that this arrangement will fit the
needs of all remaining users of Fedora 11.
Please note that KDE SC 4.4.4 is the LAST KDE update being built for Fedora
11. We encourage all users of Fedora 11 to upgrade to Fedora 13 before
Fedora 11's EOL date (June 25).

Control of remote mouse pointer with krdc
by Timothy Murphy
I'm using krdc (the VNC viewer under Fedora-13/KDE)
to view a remote Windows XP machine,
and this works fairly well;
but I do not see how I can move the remote cursor.
Is this possible?

Seeking a grep-like script
by Timothy Murphy
I'm looking for a grep-like script that searches for a given word,
and returns the _paragraphs_ in which it appears (rather than the lines),
where a paragraph is defined as the material between 2 blank lines.
All suggestions gratefully received.

Kmail no longer quoting when I try to reply
by Arthur Pemberton
After spending about 15 minutes trying to figure out how to create a
new 'tag', KMail has stop quoting, or in any way referencing an email
that I am trying to reply to.
So I am now having to manually copy and "paste as quoting" when I am replying.
Anyone know how to fix this?

Scrambled screen, then no Fedora
by Anne Wilson
I'm not sure what's happening on my new laptop - the F13 one. I had quite a
few windows open. when suddenly the screen scrambled - it looked as though
holes were punched in every character. The wallpaper and plasmoids were
unaffected. It held like that for a few seconds, then dropped out to a black
screen with a white cursor. It wouldn't accept any input from keyboard or
mouse.
I powered off, waited a while and powered up again. It got to the f-infinity
buble completed, and stuck there. Thinking that it may be a kernel update (I
usually reboot when I see one, but could have missed doing) I tried the
previous kernel. Exactly the same. f-infinity. That's all.
Any ideas as to what could have gone wrong? Without a clue it's difficult to
decide on a plan of action.

Audio problems in KDE
by Arthur Pemberton
When I try to play audio in Amarok, it says that it's falling back to
internal audio; I'm not sure if that's good or bad, however changing
the audio volume inside amarok changes the volume level on my front
channel on the sound card itself, I'd much prefer for it to have it's
independent volume control like I thought it used to have.
Also, every time the machine starts up (which is often as I am still
reacquainting myself) The master volume level on the card is all the
way down giving me very low volume. I can't find out how to preserve
the master volume level or even change it via KMix. I have to use
alsamixer. This is on a still mostly fresh Fedora KDE (from LiveCD)
install with PulseAudio.

Switchdesk
by John Aldrich
Disregard. It appears that the *only* way to change the desktop is to log
out and manually select KDE as the desktop when logging in. I guess that
works, but I'd rather it default to KDE. *sigh* Oh, well... I'll live. :-)
