Suspicion regarding the kmail "Retrieving Folder Contents - Please wait ..." problem

I have a suspicion regarding the kmail "Retrieving Folder Contents - Please wait ..." problem. I started getting this problem recently. It was happening on a folder where imap is used with gmail.com. I changed one of the imap parameters, on gmail.com, and for the moment, the problem disappeared. I went to the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" Setting in gmail.com, found the "When I mark a message in IMAP as deleted:" setting, and changed the setting from "Auto-Expunge on - Immediately update the server. (default)" to "Auto-Expunge off - Wait for the client to update the server." If other people are also having problems with kmail and use imap with gmail.com, could they also check this setting and change it. I would like to know if changing this setting made my problem go away, or if my problem went away for some other reason. I am using kdepim-4.4.11.1-5.fc15.x86_64. If this change affects the problem, perhaps kmail is locally caching information from the gmail.com server, and the information is getting out of sync, and kmail is trying to use stale information.

Disable Printer Applet?

Hello, I'm running Fedora 16 - KDE 4.7.4. On login, the Printer Applet always starts, and I'd like to disable it. Is there a way to do that without un-installing kdeutils-printer-applet? Thanks, -Ben

Fedora 16 KDE spin questions

Hello, I just upgraded from Fedora 12 to Fedora 16 with the KDE spin, which I absolutely love - good choice for me. I have 4 questions if anyone can help (I do not possess exceptional geek skills, so please keep any answers in the "for dummies" mode if you can, otherwise it will be Greek to me). I use the terminal for easy things like installs, but that's about it. Here are my questions: Question 1): In the "Get, Remove and Update Software" panel of system settings, I have one update that will not install, called rpmfusion-nonfree-release (version 16.1.1). Unless I uncheck it when other updates are needed, it will freeze up the entire update process. Thus, I wish to delete this update from the panel, but there is no option available to do so. How do I delete this malfunctioning update, and how do I prevent it from reloading the next time my system checks for updates? For that matter, how do I delete any future update I do not want to install? By the way, the in the description area below the rpmfusion update, it says: "The developer logs will be shown as no description is available for this update. **20110-11-02** Nicolas Chauvet -16.1.1 - Fix comat key for F-15 **2011-10-27** Nicolas Chauvet -16-1 - Add keys for Rawhide/F-17 -Build for F-16 *Could not parse header.* 'Thorsten Leemhuis -16.1' *expected*: 'Firstname Lastname -version release' Updates rpmfusion-nonfree-release - 14-2, Repository: rpmfusion-nonfree" Question 2): I have a font I downloaded in my downloads folder. It was not readable by the Font Viewer program, stating: "Could not read font." Thus, I clicked to delete the font, but then I receive the message: "Could not delete file. The file or folder does not exist." If I right click properties, it still returns the file's attributes, but all else tells me the file is no longer in existence, therefore it cannot be deleted, moved, or renamed. How to I get rid of this nuisance? Question 3): I am a writer, and am halfway through my next book. I was using OpenOffice Writer with Fedora 12 with no issues. With Fedora 16 KDE, when I issued an install order for yum regarding OpenOffice Writer, it defaulted to LibreOffice Writer, which apparently is the preferred app for this OS spin. In any event, to open my book file, which is only 1.5 MB of text (no graphics), it requires a full 5 minutes to load into LibreOffice Writer. Is this normal??? When I launch my prior book, which is 9.0 MB of text only, it takes a whopping 21 minutes to load. These times are FAR in excess of the load times with OpenOffice Writer in Fedora 12. The computer has a 1.2 GHz Celeron processor with 1.5 GB of RAM, same as in Fedora 12. Is Fedora 16 using so much system resources that this sluggish load time is expected, If this is all normal, I can live with it, but it sure seems odd to me. Question 4): When I run Disk Utility, it tells me: "DISK HAS MANY BAD SECTORS Backup all data and replace the disk". The only two IDs that return less than expected when I run the Self-test are: ID 197 Current Pending Sector Count with a warning that failure is a sign of old age, and it shows a value of -1 sectors, along with ID 190 Airflow Temperature, with a warning of "failed in the past" and the old-age statement again. The value for this one is37 degrees centigrade/99 degrees fahrenheit. How critical is this? Will my computer last for a while still, or am I on thin ice? I also was informed of these two issues when the .iso install disk ran to install this latest Fedora version. By the way, I am also experiencing an unusual number of random sytem glitches, and wonder if these could be caused by this issue (I did not have these problems with Fedora 12). Support for onscreen keyboard

Hello, I'm a disabled user who has been using Linux/Fedora/KDE for over 10 years. I can no longer type using a keyboard. I use an onscreen keyboard (xvkbd) for typing, it is inadequate. I have posted a whishlist feature on KDE's Bug Tracking System here--->http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=265452. Warnings when starting kde apps

Hi We are finding that on F16, x86_64, when starting kde applications from a terminal we get the following warning message: QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave. Does anyone else see this? Is it important? The applications don't seem to misbehave though or at least, not in a way that we have noticed. I found https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=759058 which seems to be similar. Reported 1 Dec 2011 but no further comments. Roderick Johnstone

KDE Dashboard Esc

After recent update to KDE 4.7.4 on Fedora 16 x86_64 the Esc button stopped working on the Plasma Dashboard. No I have to click the X button with mouse. Does anyone experiencing this issue? I looked at the Shortcuts for Dashboard, but there is no such item to set up key for hiding dashboard (moreover some of the items are represented several times, but that is another issue). Thank you! Kde startup animation disappear

I update my fedora with fresh installation to fedora 16 but I have got the same /home directory of previous version (fedora 14). Now, after login, kde doesn't show to me the startup animation...the problem is similar to this bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283430 but I don't have a second display now and if I create a second new user, he has no problem. kde sessions logged out

Hi This morning my users came in to find that they had had their locked F16 kde sessions logged out. Indications are that this happened about the time of our nightly yum update. The systems had not rebooted so we can probably rule out a power glitch. I'd like to try to find out what caused this since we'd rather it didn't happen regularly. There were quite a few updates that came in early this morning, but as a starting point I was wondering if the logout was a possible side effect of the kde updates? It looks like kdebase-workspace*, kdm, ksysguard*, libkworkspace, phonon* and plasma-scriptengine-python were updated? Has anyone else noticed such an unscheduled logout? Thanks Roderick Johnstone

Kmail 2 attachments - not able to view

Hi, I cannot see attachments (IE jpegs) with the current updates of kde/Kmail2 which is *vital* for me here. They are shown in the body of the message as raw data. I have a feeling it is something to do with the filters as I just looked at a message I just sent myself as a test in the sent-mail folder and the attachment (jpeg) is fine, the received test message was not. Kmail keep being stuck "Retrieving Folder Content"

Hello, I have just install F16 and its latest update. Then I set up my kmail. All my mail are IMAP connection (multiple IMAP servers). For some reason my kmail (running inside Kontact) keep being stuck on "Retrieving Folder Content", no matter what I tried. I tried clicking different folders, kill kontact / kmail from process manager, log out / re-login, and even reboot. And everytime I open kmail, at first it shows whatever message it happens to show, but whenever I tried to click to a different message, it gets stuck again to "Retrieving Folder Contents." Has anyone been seeing this ? I found this bug below from googling but there doesn't seem to be any resolution. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=259439 Thanks. AC

Wifi broken

Since updating yesterday (2:ethtool-3.1-1.fc15.i686) I am pestered every few minutes for the password for my wireless connection - which then fails. I have had to stop autoconnection. Folder List Ordering in Kmail

Hello, Is there anyway to change the ordering of IMAP folder list on Kmail 4.7.4 ? In previous version, folders are ordered something like: - Inbox - Sent - Draft - The rest of folders alphabetically Now folders are all ordered alphabetically. This means that my "Inbox" is not on the top of the list, which is annoying, although kmail recognize that folder as "Inbox" (it has different icon). I am using F16, fully updated, kmail 4.7.4. I tried searching via google but didn't find anything, so if someone could point me to a solution I would be grateful. Thanks. AC

FYI Virtuoso - high CPU

Hi, Thanks for the updated Akonadi which as some nice features to clean the db, Usage: akonadictl [command] Commands: start - Starts the Akonadi server with all its processes stop - Stops the Akonadi server and all its processes cleanly restart - Restart Akonadi server with all its processes status - Shows a status overview of the Akonadi server vacuum - Vacuum internal storage (WARNING: needs a lot of time and disk space!) fsck - Check (and attempt to fix) consistency of the internal storage (can take some time) Sadly this new update never fixed the high CPU usage of Virtuoso 100% of one of the cores... Reading through some Email this evening someone pointed to this possible fix mentioned by one of the Dev's: http://lists.kde.org/?l=kdepim-users&m=132216525522932&w=2 It seems to work! virtuoso is now only using ~ 3-20 % cpu *while* indexing.
