Kate not installed by default on Fedora 16

Hi.. I just found out that Kate was not installed by default on Fedora 16 even though I had selected 'KDE Software Development' during installation. KDevelop is installed, but not Kate. Was this a concious decision or a mistake? regards, Syam

Hi, Apologies on starting a new thread.. I have been running some tests this afternoon after rebuilding/updating soprano to 2.7.57-1 from F18 src.rpm Now the Kmail crash and others mentioned in bug #301453 on kde.bugs are not reproducible anymore here with nepomuk enabled. Shutdown on power button

Hi I want KDE to handle the power button press event on my desktop. I have selected the appropriate option in System Settings > Power management > Button events handling > 'when power button is pressed'. But it doesn't seem to have any effect on my Fedora 17 x86_64 system. When I press the power button, the system immediately powers down. I don't think KDE isn't even involved in the process. I have not tried to do the experiment with any unsaved files open. But I have a feeling that I'll lose them. Searching the internet, I found these reports for XFCE: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=280726 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=746982 One solution (http://wiki.xfce.org/tips#handle_acpi_event_for_power_button_show_xfce_logo…) is to edit /etc/acpi/events/power_button and (apparently) set it have no action. I have not tried it though. Wanted to check if there's anything I'm missing. Does anyone else have this problem? regards, Syam

Thanks for the update. All went smoothly, except: 1. could not update kdegames due to missing dependency 2. wanted to test kmail with nepomuk enabled, but I cannot find anywhere in systemsettings where I can enable it (it seems that the control module is missing)

yum update from kde-testing broken packages due to dependency issues

Hi, I tried to yum -update from the kde-testing repo and I got most of the packages not updating due to broken dependencies. I tried to figure out what the problem was from the yum output but I couldn't understand much. Also, I don't get why some i686 packages are pulled (like pykde4) although I have a 64-bit system. Note that the system does not try to update these packages if kde-testing repo is disabled. way to specify size for starting apps?

Is there a way to specify the window size for my apps? OK, I know about .xresources (at least, I did know about it 20 years ago). Is there a more modern appoach? What I'd like is, open the app, size the window, and say right click on the window decoration to tell kde I want to save that size setting.

Kmail on 4.8.3, Fedora 17 is constantly closing due to a segfault 11

Hello, I went through a session a couple hours ago and must have seen about 20 segfault 11's. I am not kidding, it's no exaggeration, I really needed to do something important and I needed Kmail. I really needed it. I lived with these constant crashes and in fact, I've probably avoided using my client because of them, up until the moment, I have no choice. I won't write up a bug report because I can't reliably repeat them. I don't even have an idea about why I am writing this, I guess I am hoping for a miracle. I want to keep using Kmail but I am near my wits end. Any ideas on what could be causing Kmail to crash.. a lot? -- Best Regards Victor B. Gonzalez

USB installation of Fedora-17

I wonder if anyone has successfully installed Fedora-17 through a USB stick? I tried two ways - with the DVD iso, and with the KDE Live CD iso - on two machines, and met the same problem in all 4 cases: only half-a-dozen modules were listed by lsmod, and these did not include the ethernet or WiFi drivers. I believe that this was due to a grub2 problem, though I'm not sure about that. In both cases lspci saw the hardware devices, but they did not appear in /etc/udev/rules.d/ . It's possible there was a problem with my USB stick, though there was said to be a check in all cases. (I had checksum-med both ISOs.) I managed to install Fedora-17 on both machines with netinstall.iso on a CD .
