Korganizer Reminder Deamon Problem
by Peter G.
I haven't changed a thing and I have had these
reminders set in the ical file for years. Whenever
there is a new Fedora, I set up akonadi to use this
resource. Everything has worked like a greased axle...
until today!?
I resumed my computer and, at the time of my morning
alert, the reminder was triggered, like it was supposed
to. I dismissed it, and one minute later, it triggered
again. I dismissed it, and one minute later, it
triggered again.
I tried suspending for 1 minute, then dismissing next
time. I tried rebooting the computer. I tried
dismissing all reminders. I tried disabling reminders
(worked, but no reminders) and then enabling them
again, but the whole thing started all over again.
What is going on? I don't believe there were even any
program updates yesterday.

sddm on multi-screen
by Neal Becker
Trying out sddm on multi-screen. Works, but confusing. On my smaller
resolution screen, only 'username' field is shown, not 'password' which is
off the bottom of the screen.
gdm has a simpler approach: login is only shown on the 1st (higher res)
screen.

Kmail/Akonadi forgets pop3 mail server password
by Peter G.
I have set up a pop3 mail server under Akonadi for each
of the mail servers I use (my internet provider default,
google and yahoo).
Roughly every third time I start Kmail, the yahoo pop3
password needs to be reeintered. Why does it get
forgotten by akonadi?
I reenter the password and the mail is checked, and then,
a day or three later, the same thing again. This has been
going on for weeks, perhaps months. I have ignored it,
but it is frustrating. What is going on?

multi-screen trouble
by Neal Becker
My last laptop was fine, because it's native resolution matched my external
monitor's. But now I have a high-dpi laptop and having trouble.
Laptop is 2560x1440. I manually set dpi to 125 by putting
#!/bin/sh
xrandr --dpi 125x125
into
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/77-setdpi.sh
(note to self - emacs leaves backup files in this dir which are stupidly NOT
ignored by the X startup)
This setting seems pretty reasonable on this screen.
I plugin my external monitor which is 1920x1080. Go to Display
Configuration. I'd prefer to have clone, but I guess that isn't a choice
because of the difference in resolution. So I put them next to each other.
Problem is, the dpi setting also affects the external monitor. All the
fonts are too big.
More problems: here I am typing in knode. I placed it on the 2nd screen.
When I choose 'post message', the window opens up with all the menus and
window decorations off the top of the screen. Very inconvenient.
Any suggestions how to make this a better experience?

Fn key inversion on new lenovo
by Neal Becker
Just got new lenovo X1 carbon. So far everything is working well, but one
issue with the keyboard.
Hitting Alt-F2 does not give 'run command'. Instead, Fn-Alt-F2 does. In
fact, inspecting (using emacs), it seems every one of the function keys acts
as if the Fn key state is inverted. E.g., without holding Fn, hitting F2
lowers the volume, which is what is suppose to happen if you hold Fn, and
emacs reports indicate the same.
Any hints how to fix? I did not do anything special with the keyboard,
other than (with kde settings) swapping ctrl-capslock.
