PSA: Don't use ipp[s] URLs for printers

I had a heck of a time figuring out why printing wasn't working on Fedora 26. It turns out that Qt applications have problems with CUPS printers that have ipp://... (or ipps://...) device-uri's. (This was a clean install, and I just happened to use ipp://... when I set up my printers; I had previously used http://...:631/....) Symptoms include: * Qt applications will default to "Print to File (PDF)," even though a default CUPS queue is set. (The CUPS printers are selectable in the drop-down, but ....) * Page size will always default to A4, even if the printer is configured to use another default page size in CUPS. * Most seriously, actually clicking on the "Print" button has no effect. Missing Icons in Dolphin after F26 upgrade

So immediately after upgrading to F26 from 25 a couple months ago I noticed that all icons on my system except for customs were gone. At the time I was using Breeze Dark.. I searched and searched back then all to no avail. If I open the properties of say Desktop and go to change the icon every choice is blank. Now whats odd is that I can open up Icon Theme and change it to say.. Papirus-Adapta-Nokto and reopen Dolphin and all icons are present. I have all icons in the Panel menus too. However if I close Dolphin and reopen I am back to having none. I've tried many.. MANY themes and all behave like this. This is so damned frustrating because I've searched and searched and can't find a bloody thing to help out. F27: Dolphin & Samba shares

Hi all, Today when using Dolphin to browse a samba share, I noticed that no matter what I did, I kept getting the same error message: Internal Error Please send a full bug report at http://bugs.kde.org Unknown error condition in stat: File exists I didn't notice anything in the system journal, or /var/log/* to report or test. Running Dolphin from konsole gave no extra output or error notice. Samba version: $ rpm -qa | grep samba | sort samba-client-4.7.0-12.fc27.x86_64 samba-client-libs-4.7.0-12.fc27.x86_64 samba-common-4.7.0-12.fc27.noarch samba-common-libs-4.7.0-12.fc27.x86_64 samba-dc-libs-4.7.0-12.fc27.x86_64 samba-libs-4.7.0-12.fc27.x86_64 Can anyone reproduce this or give me any hints on where to start looking? Am I missing a package? How To Stop Showing "emoticons" In Kmail Message Window

Kmail always displays "emoticons" in the message window. It didn't always do this and it once allowed me to configure it to not put those silly things in the message text. Now, I cannot find any place to specify that I do not want this mangling of message text. I see that ~/.config/kmail2rc contains: [Reader] ... ShowEmoticons=false But it is obviously being ignored. Does anyone know how to get back the normal behavior. -- Garry T. Williams

White spaces in Kmail (dark themes)

Hi, After the recent updates of qt5-qtwebengine there are white spaces in the message window when using a Dark Theme. Another user has just reported this on kde.bugs with a screen shot https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=379406 I don't know if it is a kmail or qtwebengine bug or even related to mesa/ nouveau saga. [F26] Cannot log in with sddm (Plasma), sddm-helper[6948]: segfault

Hi, Fresh install of F26. First user created in the installation process, no issue. 2nd user created with kuser from 1st user session. This second user cannot log in from sddm but he can log in from a terminal and run startx which works fine. Forcing KDM mouse pointer (cursor) size

One of my displays is a large 2K screen. It's presence causes Qt (both 4 and 5) to default to an oversized mouse pointer, which looks rather ridiculous. This is easily fixed in my Plasma session though the Cursor Theme in system settings. Falkon Default browser for Fedora KDE

I believe at this point it's not why this should happen, but rather why not. Falkon is a full featured browser, showcases qtwebengine, has many extensions, etc. It's just the logical thing to do.

The kde list is: kde(a)lists.fedoraproject.org Stephen is correct, this discussion shouldn't be on the development list for the reasons he mentioned above. I've copied the kde-list. please respond there if desired and remove reference to the development list before sending. I'd just like to reiterate my earlier comment: "I believe you are missing the point of defaults.... which is to provide as complete environment as possible out of the box. Since this is a KDE spin, we should be providing as complete of a KDE environment as possible. Users shouldn't be required to go on a treasure hunt to seek out available KDE applications. The idea is to showcase what is available in KDE. Do monitor plasmoids work for anyone?

I'm not sure when I first tried to use one of the monitor plasmoids (CPU Load, Hard Disk I/O, Network), but it's been several releases, and none of them have every worked for me. None of them show any activity, and the respective settings dialogs show no CPUs, disks, or interfaces. I haven't been able to find any messages in any log files that look related.
