Reproducible plasma-workspace "crashes"

Fedora 43 with all updates. I have a 2-monitor setup (A Dell 4k and a HP 1920x1080) with an AMD RX580 GPU with DisplayPort. This worked with F42 and does still work with F43, except: When the monitors sleep (idle) and then wake again, I get a pop-up telling me that plasma-workspace has crashed, but it actually hasn't, i.e. everything is still there and working. This happens every time. I've submitted several bug reports via the pop-up dialogue. Is anyone else seeing this? poc

Desktop locks up when screen goes dim or blank

Everyone: With F43 KDE Plasma Desktop, whether on the live installer or on my HP desktop with a fresh installation, I dare not leave my computer for more than about 10 minutes at a time before the screen dies or goes blank (expected), and then the device freezes. When this happens, the power button, normally shining blue, turns burnt orange. Neither keystroke nor mouse movement will avail to restore the screen or any function. Sometimes the screen will show a messy display. Nothing will avail except a hard reboot. As long as I can keep active with keystrokes or mouse movements, the problem will not show. I have not yet tried this with viewing a live stream or lengthy video. (Fortunately most of my live streams are interactive, requiring frequent keystrokes to stay active in a chat, so that staves off the problem. ) I never had this problem before. I'm used to leaving my desktop running continuously for days at a time. Now I hardly dare get up to sit down for a meal! Did I do something wrong, either In making my live installer or in installing F43 to my desktop? How can I repair my system to make this problem go away? Please advise - or tell me the problem is bigger than on KDE alone. Temlakos <temlakos(a)gmail.com>

Fresh install boots but has no installed applications.

Today I used a KDE Plasma live installer to install F43 on a system with a custom layout, using mount point assignment. Now I have a system that boots but doesn't seem to have any applications other than Dolphin, which is hard to find. I can't even browse the Internet, nor manage email. Whatever native KDE stuff it has, has no startup menu shortcuts for launching. Discover literally finds nothing, nothing installed, and not even a listing of available applications. What do I do next, to start repopulating my system with applications? Temlakos <temlakos(a)gmail.com>

laptop locks up after screen dim / idle

All; I'm running Fedora 42 / KDE I have a dell ultra wide screen - 5120x1440 I have power settings set as follows: when inactive: do nothing when laptop lid closed: lock screen dim automatically: 10 minutes turn off screen: 15minutes every time the system is idle for some time the monitor goes blank and the laptop freezes Thanks in advance for any advice

High CPU usage after F42->F43 upgrade

I am experiencing a high CPU usage of my plasma 6.5.1 after F42->F43 upgrade. System Monitor shows that "Background Services" take roughly 5% of my 24-core Ryzen, which basically represent one full core running at 100% all the time even when the desktop is completely idle. F42 when idle would have negligible CPU load less than 1%. Is this normal? If not, how should I troubleshoot? Thanks Frank -- <listfrank1(a)gmail.com>
