I ran a  sudo dnf install dropbox, followed by  dropbox start -I and that worked for me.

Sorry for the fragmentation of these replies.

I have since found issues when switching between Xorg and Wayland.

I suggest that in your testing you pick one of those after a reboot and stick with it for the time being.  It may take
a bit for me (with help from others) to track down the problem.
