I had this as well (a little while back, with Chromium). I think what I
did was to uncheck 'close when last app stops using it' and check 'close
when screensaver starts', more like the default Macintosh behavior
(Google's code may have grown up there). I'm not terribly worried about
the security of this setup, and if I ever get the bluetooth locking
working I'll be even less worried.
