On Plasma 5, when I typed Ctrl-Alt-Del I would get a prompt where the default (preselected) action was Logout, and could just hit Return.
Plasma 6.x, the default action is Shutdown. This is almost never what I want, and has caught me out more than once.
Is this a bug or a feature? Is there a way to change it?

I don't really know but you can have a look at ~/.config/ksmserverrc
Perhaps modifying values on:
[General] shutdownType=2
NOTE: I really do not know if that would help!
Best regards,
Marc

Thanks, that's something to look at. Unfortunately the meanings of the various option codes don't seem to be documented anywhere I can find.

Let's ask chatgpt: In KDE, the `shutdownType` parameter in the `~/.config/ksmserverrc` file determines the action to be taken when the session ends. The possible values and their meanings are as follows:
- `0`: Logout - This will log out the current user session. - `1`: Reboot - This will restart the computer. - `2`: Halt (or Shutdown) - This will shut down the computer.
So, in your case, `shutdownType=2` means that the system is set to shut down when the session ends.

I'd love to know where ChatGPT found this information, given that it appears to be wrong:
$ cat .config/ksmserverrc [$Version] update_info=ksmserver_update_loginMode_value.upd:ksmserver_update_loginMode_value_default_enum
[General] confirmLogout=true loginMode=restorePreviousLogout offerShutdown=true screenCount=1 shutdownType=0 <--------------********************
[LegacySession: saved at previous logout] count=0

Again, the preselected option in my case is Shutdown, not Logout.

I asked perplexity.ai, which gives references to it's information. Here
is the response: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/n-my-kde-desktop-i-have-in-the-n24VxbEMQnuJ...
It claims it was found on Manjaro forum (ref 4)

Further info: I checked a backup of the ksmserverrc file from a year ago (i.e. on Plasma 5) and the Shutdown parameter has the same value, but at that time I am 100% certain that the preselected option was Logout.
So I'm guessing this is a Plasma 6 bug and I'll report it as such.
