For those of you who want a quick sneak-peak at plasma-5.8.0, builds are avilable in copr, https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/kdesig/plasma-5-unstable/
Feedback is welcome and encouraged.
I've only done one quick upgrade test (on f24 box), and restarted my session. Nothing exploded. :)
Doing official updates may have to wait a bit, as Fedora 25 is currently in beta freeze.

Looking good Rex on this F24 box, all seems to be running very smoothly for the past few hours :-)

Is this the best place to learn about the new features?
https://dot.kde.org/2016/09/15/kde-20-plasma-58-lts-beta-here-long-term
Or is there another place which highlights new features and fixes?
FWIW, updated one system and so far so good. It is an older system so rather slow. The only disconcerting thing is the amount of time it spends with a blank screen during startup but that is probably due to that systems age.
Could you please remove me from this list. The password reset is not working

I am running on F25. And just like you I see the dark screen for some time, not too long here, but as soon as it goes the system is ready to work.
Looking in to system settings I see that the splash screen has been reverted to none when before it was F24.
Things are running smoothly here.
Better than that I noticed that on this configuration a laptop, with a full hd display, with an external connected display with the previous plasma versions the laptop was always blank. It was always necessary to restart plasma to get plasma working on the laptop display, where the panel is (a small detail who needs the panel). With plasma 5.8 this is finally sorted. Good. :-)
Thank you. :-)

FWIW, it seems to be ignoring the "splash screen" setting in my case. In my case it is set to F24 but it always comes up with the "Breeze" splash screen".

I stand corrected. :-)
In my case I had the F24, system settings shows "None" as being select, and the one that shows at start is Breeze, as you describe. :-)
Not a huge problem IMHO.

Right, not a big deal at all. But since Rex asked for feedback. :-)
I especially like the better "Unified Look".

On f24, pretty much everything works fine. The only issue I noticed is, time display on the lockscreen is cut off partially (on a QHD screen).

On F24 all is well (modulo the splash screen) on my desktop and an XPS-13.
Thanks for this.

Thanks, I'm interested in trying it out. The URL mentions how to install, what is the preferred method to revert back? Disable the copr and then distribution-sync?
Just an FYI.
I just today noticed that the history was not being updated in the launcher. So, I had to "Forget All" to restore the functionality.

font used on my 2nd monitor for panel/task manager is a bit big and ugly.
I tried going to settings/font/force fonts dpi and unchecked (previously I had dpi force to 120), but doesn't seem to matter.
Hi,
performed the upgrade and using it for some days now. Seems to be working fine here and not noticed any regressions so far. Even fixed a few (not all) issues regarding dual monitors.
Best regards, Florian

Thanks for the update, installed, and is working smoothly on F25, but in wayland session 'alt+function keys' doesn't work (work fine in X11), not sure plasma 5.8 or other components in F25.

Also when I try to edit the menu (wayland session), I get: "Unable to contact khotkeys. Your changes are saved, but they could not be activated."

Something that I found both yesterday and today, when starting the computer is that the ksmserver (kde session manager) runs at 100% for some minutes and there is no sign of stopping.
Yesterday I have killed it using the htop interface and today I took an even more drastic action by restarting sddm.
The funny thing is that the second time it worked flawlessly. This is strange in the sense that yesterday I restarted the computer so it was running on a fresh environment. Today I have just logged in again.
As anyone seen anything like this?
FWIW I am running plasma-5.8.0 on F25 and my problems only started yesterday and not in any of the previous days so it could be related with other updates.
Regards,

Regards,
FWIW I do not see this problem today the only change was that yesterday I have update to the latest packages in copr. So for the moment this is no more a problem. :-)
