Heard a lot of user feedback (complaints, requests) for being able to remove konqueror, and I've implemented a first step in that direction beginning with kde-baseapps-4.12.0-2 now in rawhide, and f19/f20 kde-unstable repos.
There continue to be kde-baseapps (metapackage), kde-baseapps-libs (metapackage), kde-baseapps-devel. In addition to those we have new subpackages: kde-baseapps-common.noarch (includes licenses mostly) dolphin kde-plasma-folderview kdepasswd kdialog keditbookmarks kfind konqueror libkonq
this ended up being more work that I anticipated, ended up spending a lot of yesterday working on it, but am happy with the result.
Please test, and offer feedback, especially regarding subpackage interdependencies.
Next steps include adding some/all of these to rawhide comps, and adjusting dependencies in other packages that currently use stuff like: Requires: kde-baseapps

i recently got the upgrade and it pulled the new packages fine since i am a Konqueror user - looking at the output of rpm -q --filesbypgk these are metapackages - fine transition
the only thing which still annoys me in 4.12 is that okular no longer displays any image format and claims there are no plugins for png/jpg/gif and so it's currently only a pdf-viewer
all other things are fine and from my POV 4.12 is stable and fine

not that i found something
Can anyone on 4.12 confirm this?
asked the other way around - does it for you? i have installed only known as used packages and do not see additional ones for okular withc "yum search" what whould be my only explaination (new subpackages to split out functionality which is good but AFAIK not the case)

Can anyone on 4.12 confirm this?
Yep, I have tried opening a Jpeg and also see this error "No plugin for mimetype '"image/jpeg"" Same with GIF and PNG. Only PDF and PS work so far in my testing.
Fedora 20 - 4.12

I did a minimal test... built okular-4.12.0 on top of kde-4.11.4 environment... and it still worked. So, I suspect the issue is at some lower level, perhaps kdelibs' kimgio plugins.
Can other apps like gwenview/konqueror display these files ok?

yes, it only affects okular which believes now it needs a plugin while the past years gif/png/jpg where basic formats
what i read in several news about KDE 4.12 is that okluar now can play audio/video in epub files what may be true and nice but i have no such files - smells like a regression

I can also confirm, Konq and Gwenview work fine with the files tested here.

Found the culprit last night, a (silent) missing build dependency for libkexiv2-devel means the kimgio pieces don't get enabled.
fixed in okular-4.12.0-2+

IIRC, without kdialog the "Change Icon" button in the "Configure Toolbar" dialogue will be disabled in both dolphin and konqueror.
