This release feels really fast, switching between desktops is amazing.
On a computer where I have installed the previous version (beta? 4.8.90) I had a small niggle that is not fixed in this version. konsole always gets upgraded to "all desktops" between sessions even if expect/set it to desktop 1.
Fabulous release. :-)

Seems to solve #302084. No issues thus far.
Thanks! - Gilboa

Replying to myself. :-) After logging out and logging in again the problem is fixed, so really no issue here. :-)
FWIW that was the reason why I delayed the update on the laptop and it worked. :-)

Update went smoothly as usual, a few issues though but I am searching kde.bugs time permitting.
Search in Kmail2 has regressed and does not work again.
Duplicate emails seems to have reared its ugly head again in POP3, IMAP seems fine so far.
Not impressed with the new Dolphin v2.1 layout in 4.9 and I'm having trouble with "drag and drop" I think due to a change in how it works so I need to investigate that further.
Nepomuk file indexer is suspended at every login, not sure why yet. Will check with a fresh user account.
Nepomuk seg faults still being reported in the system logs, abrt has not popped up to allow me to investigate further since I installed the debug packages.
Hopefully I'll find sometime and bug reports on these and pass them on.
As usual thanks to all involved..
Colin

OK, for those interested I have found some relevant bug reports:

These seem the most relevant reports:

Also of note the Search folder shows Offline, still trying to find info/cause of this..

Seems like the drag and drop problem is a bug and the layout change is a feature.

OK, this does not happen with a new user, any ideas why this keeps getting toggled to "suspended" on my main account/login ? I'll try and find where the config file is for this.

the battery plasmoid isn't updating. And it is no longer shown in the system try but as a separate plasmoid in the panel.
Cheers,

Thanks Rex, nothing in these files on either account mention the suspended indexer. I'm at a loss now where else to look but its somewhere in ~/.kde
I'll dig around some more at the weekend.

reminds me... One situation that will automatically suspend indexing is if it's a laptop running on battery.

Well I just could not find the culprit that was suspending indexing, it was some rc file in ~/.kde/share/config/ So I took the drastic measure and mv ~/.kde/share/config/ out of the way and starting over, a pain but cured the problem.
Maybe time permitting I'll diff both config DIR's

I'm thinking of trying the kde-unstable again. I haven't done this for quite a while. I'm a bit hesitant because IIRC following this path can lead to big problems to later get back into distro sync.
Is this true? Is there a fairly painless way to:
1) Assuming kde4.9 goes into F17, get back in sync with F17? 2) Assume some disaster, go back to current F17?

This is possible since most of what goes into kde-unstable is code that is/will be in Fedora. In the worst case running yum disto-sync should do it.
- Assume some disaster, go back to current F17?
That is not possible in general since the configuration files are migrated to the new version and it is not easy to revert this even if all rpm packages can be reverted.

The upgrade path should be smooth/seemless.
- Assume some disaster, go back to current F17?
yum distro-sync
should get you most of the way there, in this case.

So far so good.
Only problem so far is amarok forgot my music collection. After telling it again where to find my files, it's working.
