No debug kernel builds are getting scarce
by Bruno Wolff III
I was expecting to see more no debug kernels show up after rc1.git0 appeared
there. But we haven't had one show up yet.
I may need the normal builds anyway, since 3.16-0.rc1.git0.1 isn't successfully
booting on my i686 machines (though it seems to work fine on x86_64). But it
is nice to have the no debug ones for day to day use.

F20 Kernel 3.14.x / raid-check and freezes
by Reindl Harald
has anybody else faced complete freezes of a machine
due raid-check? today the same as last thursday while
the freeze seems not to happen by the raid-check itself
according to running smokepings from outside which are
green until i try to use the machine
* last thursday morining around 8:30 while login in KDE
* today around 9:45 AM while power on the screen and
continue to re-use a existing KDE session
however, after hard power off, the fsck, login in KDE
and start the raid-check manually on TTY3 it continues
____________________________________________________
since the raid-check starts at 5:30 and all heavy IO
from remote-backups and rsnapshot ends at 4:30 to not
collide it's hardly IO-dependent

- KERNEL:
$ curl -s https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.x/ChangeLog-3.14.6 | grep iwlwifi
So pick up kernel-3.14.6-200.fc20.x86_64.rpm
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=531773
You can also try with kernel-core-3.15.0-1.fc21.x86_64.rpm
http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/rawhide-kernel-nodebug/x86_64/
- FIRMWARE:
$ modinfo -F firmware iwlwifi
# yum --enablerepo updates-testing install iwl6000g2b-firmware
$ rpm -qf /usr/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-6000g2b-6.ucode
iwl6000g2b-firmware-17.168.5.2-38.fc20.noarch
According to
http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi#Firmware
Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6235 goes with iwlwifi-6000g2b-ucode-18.168.6.1.tgz
i.e. iwlwifi-6000g2b-6.ucode
also stated within firmware itself:
https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/...
"IWL.6000g2b.fw.v18.168.6.1.build.0"
However in Fedora it is packaged as "17" i.e. iwl6000g2b-firmware-17.168.5.2-38.fc20.noarch
However checksums are equal:
$ sha1sum /usr/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-6000g2b-6.ucode \
> /tmp/iwlwifi-6000g2b-ucode-18.168.6.1/iwlwifi-6000g2b-6.ucode
0c5dbfed5f50ef39b56827651f572bea25bfc27e /usr/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-6000g2b-6.ucode
0c5dbfed5f50ef39b56827651f572bea25bfc27e /tmp/iwlwifi-6000g2b-ucode-18.168.6.1/iwlwifi-6000g2b-6.ucode
So you are good to go with "17".
Josh, do these two firmwares should be in their own packages as "18"?
Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6235 - iwlwifi-6000g2b-ucode-18.168.6.1
i.e. iwlwifi-6000g2b-6.ucode - "IWL.6000g2b fw v18.168.6.1 build 0"
in iwl6000g2b-firmware-18.168.6.1-1.f$releasever.noarch.rpm
and
Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6205 - iwlwifi-6000g2a-ucode-18.168.6.1
i.e. iwlwifi-6000g2a-6.ucode - "IWL.6000g2a fw v18.168.6.1 build 0"
in iwl6000g2a-firmware-18.168.6.1-1.f$releasever.noarch.rpm

3.16 merge window kernels
by Josh Boyer
Hi All,
Likely later today I'll commit the first 3.16 merge window kernel to rawhide.
This is unfortunately going to be a rather large jump from 3.15, as
the upstream merge window was open during the final 3.15 development.
Our scripts for producing git snapshots (and our RPM versioning)
aren't able to really cope with pre 3.16 stuff being done on top of
3.15-rc8 instead of 3.15 final. So we have 7000+ commits landing in
the first -git1 snapshot.
As usual, please review the config settings and such when the commit
is pushed. I'll be doing much smaller git snapshots from here on out.

Overall impression - it works very well, what didn't surprise me, because I'm very well tested this kernel within Rawhide.
suspension & hibernation & virtutualization & md & network & audio & video & media all passed the test.
My recommendation for inclusion in the stable Fedora.

Problem booting custom kernel in Fedora-20, efi related?
by Ben Greear
Hello!
I hope this is not too far off-topic..I did not see a better mailing list option.
My problem is that I cannot get a Fedora-20 machine to fully boot using
a custom compiled kernel. This kernel works on dozens of other machines,
most of them Fedora 19 and less. I'm building this kernel on a different
machine, then un-tarring it on the target machine, running mkinitrd,
mucking grub 40_custom file with a script, and regenerating the grub-cfg.
First thing I noticed is that the grub lines start with linuxefi and initrdefi
instead of linux and initrd. With this fix in my script, the kernel starts
booting, but the boot process hangs when trying to handle the initrd target.
I am just putting the kernel image and initrd image in /boot as I have for
years.
Is there anything special I need to do while building a kernel or initrd
to make it work with the efi boot variants?
Any other ideas on what I might be doing wrong or how to debug it
better?
Thanks,
Ben

by navid Rahimi
i look at fedora project mailing list and cannot figure it out which
of mailing list should i ask my question .
is there any man page for kernel in fedora ?? in debian
linux-manual-$version was package for kernel internal function man
pages.
i had it even on my arch linux . 3 , 4 i switched to fedora but i
cannot find any kernel man page . kernel-doc install all Document to
/usr/share/doc/kernel-doc-$version/Documentation/
but not man files. i saw in web , section 9 is not standard . i don't
know by which way is not standard.but in fedora after installing
kernel-doc , all man pages this is what i get :
