Bug ID: 1208554 Summary: Remove the explicit requires on kmod-libs Product: Fedora Version: rawhide Component: kmod Assignee: kmod-maint@lists.fedoraproject.org Reporter: dshea@redhat.com QA Contact: extras-qa@fedoraproject.org CC: jonathan@jonmasters.org, kmod-maint@lists.fedoraproject.org, msivak@redhat.com
The kmod package doesn't need to require kmod-libs anymore, since /bin/kmod has been statically linked with libkmod since kmod-15 or so.

--- Comment #1 from David Shea dshea@redhat.com --- Related to that, the Requires in kmod-devel would need to switch to kmod-libs%{?_isa} = %{version}-%{release} instead of requiring the main kmod package.

--- Comment #2 from Josh Boyer jwboyer@redhat.com --- Hm, seems you are correct. I missed that when making the upgrade.
However, I'm not sure changing it is really worthwhile at this point. What effect do you see this having given that systemd depends on the libraries? It seems like a somewhat academic exercise.

--- Comment #3 from David Shea dshea@redhat.com --- Huh, I didn't catch that systemd links to libkmod. Based on that I would expect the net effect to be nothing.
I agree that this is low-to-no priority. I just ran into it while unraveling and explaining away some rpmdiff messages and thought I would share.

--- Comment #5 from Fedora End Of Life jkurik@fedoraproject.org --- This message is a reminder that Fedora 23 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 23. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '23'.
Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.
Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 23 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.
Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.

Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 26. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained.
