fedora 8 install.

Installation of fedora7 on compaq6710b laptop

Hello
I am having a laptop (*HP Compaq 6710b Business Notebook PC
(GM915PA))*and tried to install Fedora 7 on it, but it could not be
succeded. Please
help me in this regard or I have to try it with Fedora 8. I am very much new
to Fedora 7 and practicing Seismic Unix on my desktop (Fedora 7 installed on
it).

Latest kernel on T60p

I have the latest stable kernel(2.6.23.8-63.fc8) and I noticed that my
T60p will now "shut down" when I have heavy disk usage. I was seeing
this on F7, but it went away with the first F8 install I did. Is there
any sort of "just before you shut down" hook I can tap into in order to
get some debug information? I would like to enter a bug.. but dont want
to put in a "It randomyly happens, with nothing in /var/log/messages"
type of bug.

Wireless Broadcom BCM93411MCG wlan mini-pci

I have a compaq presario c500 running fedora core 8 (with
automatic updates already installed) with a "Broadcom
Corparation BCM93411MCG wlan mini-pci" card. It shows up in
network configuration under hardware as an ethernet card and not
a wireless connection. I tried to delete it as an ethernet and
set it up as a wireless, yet "Broadcom Corparation BCM93411MCG
wlan mini-pci" does not show up under "select wireless device" or
"adapter type". Yet when I add it as an ethernet connection it
shows up under "adapter type" or "select ethernet connection" yet
if I install it, it has a status of 'ok', yet does not function
or activate.
Drivers?
Any ideas?

Problem with mode switching on ATI 7500

Hi all,
I have a laptop (Compaq Evo N1000v) with a graphics card of ATI Technologies
Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500] with 32MB memory. I'm
running Fedora 8, and the auto-installed X driver is "radeon".
My problem is that whenever I switch from the default graphics mode (
1400x1050@60Hz) to any other mode, and specifically to text mode, the LCD
screen displays a white stain that expands and engulfs the entire screen,
making it completely white. However, when I switch back to graphics mode,
the display is resumed perfectly with the graphic desktop environment.
To make sure this is not a hardware problem, I ran X with the "vesa" driver,
and it worked smoothly for all mode switch operations, although this driver
yields (not surprisingly) lower performance in 3D, as I measured with the
glxgears app.
I attached the configuration and the log files of both vesa and radeon. One
thing I noted is that the radeon driver operates on all 3 outputs of the
card: the LVDS (which I believe is the LCD screen), the CRT (the external
VGA connector) and the TV (which is the external S-Video connector). I also
inserted "@@@@@" strings in the logs at the places where the mode-switch
took place. It seems that the "radeon" driver performs "RESTORE" operations
on all the outputs when it comes back to graphics mode. However, when it
switches to text mode, it does not "RESTORE" the LVDS, just the TV and CRT
outputs (I think). Can this be somehow attributed to the fade-to-white
problem I mentioned above? Alternatively, can anyone suggest a way to make
the "radeon" driver work properly?
Note that the "vesa" driver does not log any meaningful operation on the
graphics card at all during mode switch - just switch the Synaptics touchpad
on and off.
I have also tried various combinations (from man-pages and web sites) of
both radeon-specific and generic options in the xorg.conf. None of these
combinations solved my problem.

Suspension and NetworkManager conflicts

In X, if NetworkManager is started before suspension, the wakeup will
hang before reaching the GDM login screen.
The reboot (by holding the power button) immediately following such
hangs will also fail at the point when it is about to get to the GDM
screen. This one is really odd.
However I discussed with someone in #fedora-devel irc channel, the
general opinion is that it usually has less to do with NetworkManager
than the underlying drivers. In my case the following drivers are used:
ethernet: b44
wireless: ipw2200
As suggested by the script quirk-checker.sh, 'SUSPEND_MODULES="b44"' has
been added to the executable file /etc/pm/config.d/unload_modules.
Any ideas how to debug this further?

Compaq F572US Locks Up with FC7

I have a Compaq F572US, with AMD Athlon Turin X86 with nvidia graphics
adapter. I really like the laptop, however, it occasionally hits a hard
lock up and I have to reset and reboot. The computer runs really slow
with Windows Vista, but works fine with Fedora :-)
I'm not sure how to tell if this is a software configuration problem or
I have purchased a lemon.
I'm running latest Fedora FC7 Moonshine, up-to-date.
My kernel boot options are noapic irqpoll noapci
Can anyone share experiences with Compaq F572US laptop computers?
