Schedule Topics
by Chitlesh GOORAH
hello everyone,
We are looking forward for a meeting next week.
Ive designed the TODO List in accordance to the priority of issues,
just to get things started.
I don't know much about the following issues, which were listed during
the presence of the presence maintainer. Im calling if anyone wants to
grab one of the following feel free.
inform us about your choice ( in the wiki / on the maliling list). and
if you do have other issues that you want to add. Do go on. Add them.
These were the last issues. (were these completed?)
* !! examine patches to anaconda. Some steps that would anaconda
normally run are skipped in --livecd mode, and it isn`t checked is it
100% safe to do
* tweak firstboot so we could use it for system configuration
* fix the problem with HWADDRs in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-*
* fix the problem with fonts.dir (during system startup)
* provide a way to strip down languages (from /usr/share/local) and
docs (/usr/share/doc)
* implement SquashFS (right now it works with zisofs)
* modify syslog and other things that log to keep shorter logs
* improve build system (work around .am and .ac files, build RPMs)
* implement backup/restore function for config files and used data
(use linux4all b/r as a starting point)
* make SELinux work on live system
* make kadischi forward command line options to anaconda (so it would
be possible to pass options to anaconda)
* modify anaconda to calculate expected size of iso image during
package selection (when run in --livecd mode)
* work around config file (make anaconda ignore %livecd section, make
kadischi able to read that section)
* create (and integrate) fancy little gui
Ive added my responsibilities. You can do the same :)

%__install_langs macro
by Filip Tsachev
Please ignore my previous mail, I should switch off digest mode (already on
the idea for weeks.. )
So about this %__install_langs macro is someone active on anaconda's lists?
How to use the macros?
I'm really wondering also what is the status with the patches supposed to go
in upstream anaconda? Any news?

anaconda prerequsite libbog1.so
by Thierry Jules
Hi,
Im tryiing to installing manually the prerequisites of Kadaschi on FC3.
However, While installing the rpm package of anaconda(rpm -ivh
anaconda-10.1.0.2-1.i386.rpm), i understand that booty and libbog1.so have
to be installed prior to anaconda...
Ive managed to find booty.
Can anyone tell me where I could eventually get libbog1.so?
Thnx!

strip down languages from /usr/share/locale
by Alex Magaz
Hi,
I've been adapting a script from the debian package localepurge to work as
post install script. This script purges all languages that doesn't appear in
the locale.nopurge file. It also gives the option to purge man pages
uncommenting MANDELETE option.
It works simply copying the three files into the post_install_scripts
directory (rember to give execution permissions to the script :). Then
customize locale.nopurge to your needs.
I've tried it and seems to work well, but have not made al lot of testing and
may be there's still some issue.
The source package can be downloaded from
http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/l/localepurge/localepurge_0.4.1.ta...
I have some questions about disk saving. What about the files
under /usr/lib/locale? Are they necessary? In my system it takes up around
100M of disk space. And /usr/share/doc? Apart from HTML, can the other
directories be safely deleted?
Cheers,
Alex Magaz

Re: Fedora-livecd-list Digest, Vol 9, Issue 23
by Filip Tsachev
Why Wednesday? I can agree for 20:00GMT although this is 22:00 here
(Bulgaria) :D Which is the time I'm on a party out...
So let me get it strait, is kadischi working (current CVS) with the
new create repo method under FC5t2 host? Or should I go for a virtual
machine with FC4 on it to build?
Cheers,
Filip

"Notes" from today's "meeting"
by Greg DeKoenigsberg
Looks like those six +1s I received were "sure, go ahead and have your
meeting... but maybe I won't show up for it." :)
Transcript follows:
[09:03] <gregdek_home> So, who have we got, then?
[09:04] <gregdek_home> It's 14:00 GMT by my watch. Is anyone
paying attention? :)
[09:06] * gregdek_home taps the microphone.
[09:06] <gregdek_home> Is this thing on?
[09:06] <notting> bueller? bueller?
[09:06] <gregdek_home> I just flew in from Pittsburgh, and boy,
are my arms tired!
[09:06] * thl would interpret this as "no"
[09:07] <gregdek_home> All right. We've got me, notting and thl.
[09:07] <gregdek_home> If this turns into "an informative chat
with Bill Nottingham, maintainer of stateless," then that's how it'll be.
[09:08] <gregdek_home> So, Bill.
[09:08] <gregdek_home> What's ahead for Stateless Linux, and how
will it affect the Live CD roadmap?
[09:09] <notting> what's ahead is 'making stateless go'.
part of this is to be able to run with the main filesystem read-only
[09:09] <notting> this obviously dovetails with livecd
[09:09] <notting> so, the idea is to pull out all the bits
from livecd (and others) that basically do enablement for read-only
operation
[09:09] <notting> and integrate them into the base OS
[09:10] <notting> kadischi's system modifications should be
along the lines of setting up users, changing servers, changing apps
[09:10] <notting> not 'making the system boot r/o without
falling over'
[09:10] <gregdek_home> Which is basically where it's at now, yes?
[09:11] <notting> that's a chunk of it, yes
[09:11] <gregdek_home> So what's the rough timeframe for these
changes to hit stateless?
[09:11] <notting> so, it's moving the basic readonly stuff
to rc.sysinit
[09:11] <notting> moving some things to mkinitrd
[09:11] <notting> timeframe wise, i'd like to get this done
for FC5
[09:12] <notting> haven't narrowed it down more than that :)
[09:12] <gregdek_home> How strong a "like" is that? Is that,
"I'm highly confident," or, "I'd like this much in the same way I'd like
world peace and my own pony?"
[09:13] <notting> "i intend to do it, i just haven't picked
a particular week"
[09:14] <gregdek_home> OK. When these changes hit stateless,
does kadischi work for FC5 by stripping a bunch of stuff out?
[09:14] <notting> "if it doesn't, i'll send patches?"
[09:15] <gregdek_home> And also, do you know if the anaconda
patches for kadischi have made it upstream yet?
[09:15] <notting> nope
[09:15] <gregdek_home> Do you know if Jeremy or anyone is looking
at them?
[09:16] <thl> jeremy looked at them once afaik -- he didn't like
them to much iirc...
[09:17] <gregdek_home> Yes, that's my recollection as well.
[09:18] <gregdek_home> Well.
[09:18] <gregdek_home> My next question:
[09:18] <gregdek_home> IS ANYONE BESIDES THL AND NOTTING ACTUALLY
HERE?
[09:19] * thl actually is working and also only partly here
[09:19] <gregdek_home> Sigh.
[09:20] <gregdek_home> All right. I guess those +1s on the list
were pretty weak +1s.
[09:21] <gregdek_home> I'd hoped to find some folks to build some
images that we could distribute from the torrent... but oh well.
[09:21] <gregdek_home> I think this "meeting" is done. Thanks,
guys. Sorry to get you up early, notting. :)
[09:22] <notting> gregdek_home: actually sitting in another
meeting :)
[09:22] <gregdek_home> Yay. :)
[09:23] <gregdek_home> All right. I'll send out "notes," heh.
The immediate action items I derive from this:
* Someone needs to make sure that katzj has the kadischi patches for
anaconda, and is either incorporating them upstream or telling someone why
he won't.
* Someone needs to propose a way of getting some Real Fedora Live CDs out
there for download, so that people can use them and say "wow, they're
great!" or "wow, they suck in these 60 ways!"
* Someone needs to call a meeting that people will show up to. :)

Upcoming meeting time
by J. Hartline
Hi.
I propose we have a meeting in the time frame suggested earlier but a
few hours before that
at 5PM EST, 4PM CST, 2PM PST, 20:00 GMT.
This is late for European visitors and contributors, but not too late I
don't think.
Is this a bad time? Lets try it?
