Newbie question...
by Matt Bird
Hi all,
Lurking around for a while and have just started playing with
kadischi, building my first iso about 5 mins ago!
Basically I want to create a custom bootdisk using standard fedora
packages defined in a kickstart profile. So far so good, I know
enough about kickstart this isnt a problem, the only thing I cant
figure out, and this is where is gets laim :-) is is it possible to
change the background image (gnome). I was thinking of using either
kickstart post_install or kadischi post install scripts to change
/usr/share/backgrounds/images/default.png to my own version before
compression. Basically what im asking is, is this a workable method,
which of the two scripts would be best, or is there another, better
way of doing it.
Thanks
Matt

kadischi rpm & kadischi's TODO
by J. Hartline
Is anyone interested in maintaining kadischi rpm packages? I think it
would be a good idea for this to be thought about now, before
or after kadischi has a new project maintainer.
I have built an rpm of kadischi, but as nmap64 and mether stated the
kadischi project was lucky to have it's mailing list put on
fedoraproject.org.
Regardelss of what they believe I have used kadischi successfully
polenty of times. I will continue to provide an installable package for
ease-of-use to users that may request it. I will possibly look into
packaging kadischi and submitting it to Fedora Extras.
I know I like kadischi, I think it is pretty neat. I don't suppose
anyone can get ahold of Darko or Greg and possibly ask
for more details on the TODO list that is at
http://fedoraproject.org/Kadischi uh?
I'm particularly interested in "modify firstboot to do some configuration".
The only thing I could think of is:
1) What runlevel should I start in?
2) What is the address of your internet gateway, or DHCP server?
3) What services should start during bootstrap?
Any one else have any ideas?

Custom version of anaconda?
by Andy Burns
Hello,
I wanted to create a Fedora Live CD so tried kadischi, I'm running
FC5/rawhide, I installed all the pre-requisites as shown on
http://www.fedoraproject.org/wiki/KadischiDoc
When I try to build a CD from a local FC5 http repo it checks the repo
and then I get an error from anaconda
error bad argument --livecd: unknown option
Does kadischi require a custom version of anaconda, or have some changes
not been carried through into the FC5 version of anaconda?
I have anaconda 10.90.25 on x86_64
There is no mention of "--livecd" within the anaconda script with all
the other options
p.s. Is there any reason (other than time!) why kadischi isn't or can't
be installed as an RPM in Extras?

Re: Another FC3 oddity
by Glen Eustace
Well I am getting somewhere.
The parport modules are not in the initrd.img :-(
In 'livecd-mkinitrd.sh', these modules were supposed to be added as a
result of running strip. However, strip was failing to load as the
library libbfd-2.15.92.0.2.so couldn't be found.
For the moment, until I can work our where this library needs to be, Im
just doing a copy instead. This has got rid of the message during the
boot.
There seem to be numerous subtle differences between FC3 and 4 that I am
having to work through/around but I am pleased to say that the kadischi
process is serving me well.

Another FC3 oddity
by Glen Eustace
Somewhere between the 'find-live-cd' and 'pivot-root' in the
livecd-linuxrc, I get a couple of messages from modprobe saying that the
parport.ko and parport_pc.ko files can not be found. This didn't occur
with the FC4 CD.
I am a little confused as the files do appear to exist. Any clues as to
why the appear ? This is a cosmetic issue as the CD is now working
fine.

custom kernel
by tony
Hello,
There haven't been many messages as of late and my last question went
unanswered. I hope this one get a reply because it is a show stopper...
I am trying to customise the kernel and rebuild the kernel rpm for my
live CD. As it is destined to run on VIA Epia-M only I want all the VIA
specific option enabled. I have followed the instructions here:
http://crab-lab.zool.ohiou.edu/kevin/kernel-compilation-tutorial-en/steps...
Does any one have another source for more recent instruction on kernel
packaging?
Cheers
Tony

Using kadischi with FC3
by Glen Eustace
I have had to abandon using FC4 for my project as there seem to be
stability issues with one of the 3rd part components that I need to use.
I thought Id have a go at using kadischi to build an FC3 LiveCD and was
surprised to find that my first attempt was reasonably successful.
Unfortunately subsequent attempts are failing miserable and I can not
work out what I have done that has broken things.
When mkzftree tries to compress the tree it fails with a non zero return
code
e.g.
mkzftree: /usr/local/vmware/flcd/livecd-build_no179/system/proc/vmnet/hub0.1: Success
*** Fatal error: mkzftree returned non zero (18944) exit code.
Aborting execution.
By modifying the kadischi source I have stopped it deleting things and
find that in the build area, system/proc is somehow 'linked' to the
real /proc on my workstation, I can not find how/where this is done or
whether it is supposed to be.
All my efforts to diagnose what is happening have made matters worse.
