Feedback needed : Metrics for Fedora Magazine
by Dhanesh B. Sabane
Greetings Magazine team!
We at CommOps are aiming to generate metrics for Fedora Magazine which
can provide us with interesting insights about the articles we post.
To better achieve the goals, we would love to know what kind of metrics
we can collect that can prove to be helpful for the Magazine team and
eventually benefit the Fedora Project as a whole.
Please reply to this email or comment on the Pagure ticket[1] and help
us understand the requirements.
Cheers!

Note on copying
by Paul Frields
Sometimes it's a good idea to quote in an article where it helps the
reader understand a topic, or promotes an additional reliable source.
However, copying wholesale from articles -- even if the text's license
allows it -- is unacceptable for the Magazine.
There may be limited exceptions by agreement with the editors and
community. But at its worst, it's plagiarism. As a rule, writers
should avoid copying from elsewhere.

New pitch idea: Raspberry GPIO expander
by Alessio Ciregia
Hello.
You can find more information about the topic here:
https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/gpio-expander/
In short words, you can use the GPIO of the Raspberry Pi Zero without
installing an OS on it: you don't need an SD card nor a power supply. You
only have to plug the USB cable between your PC and the RPi, and you can
drive the GPIO pins directly from your laptop or desktop. Deepening a
little, even if I'm not an expert of buildroot and so on, the RPi Zero
perform the boot of a minimal system via the USB interface and it emulates
an ethernet dongle.
I would like to write how to use such handy functionality on Fedora (and
it's nothing complicated: you only have to clone the GIT repos and build
the gpioexpander and usbboot programs) because reading various posts around
the web, it seems that this feature can be used only on the Raspberry Pi
Desktop (aka Pixel) and Ubuntu distros, and this is a misleading impression:
in fact we can use also our beloved Fedora workstation, even if there are
not RPMs available.
Ciao,
A.

PITCH: An update on Spectre
by Laura Abbott
Hi,
Our FPL suggested a write up on where we are with the Spectre vulnerability
since work on that is still ongoing. I wrote up a brief summary of where
we are as of this evening
https://fedoramagazine.org/?p=19900&preview=1&_ppp=404db94e4b
This should be ready to go after editing but please double check with
me before hitting publish in case anything has changed (yes, patches
are moving that fast)
Thanks,
Laura
