Thanks! I found the author's blurb at the bottom of the article. For
some reason I expected that the name/author bio/avatar would show up
next to the top of the article. I did notice a lot of writers did have
a ton of articles under their belt, I guess I'm just used to magazines
and journals that list authors directly under story title.

Maybe the subscription ran out? Is it a paid plugin?

If I had to guess I would say that somebody was thinking it would be
good to see the contribute section when you first land on the page, but
also when you scroll down, unfortunately, not all the way to the
bottom. Please dont implement one of those scrolling sidebars!

They most certainly are. If there's anything the marketing list needs
are comments. I looked at the archives before joining and the group
looks dead since about May. I was reluctant to join the list because I
was afraid it was a defunct group. But, I figured its one of those
lulls that happen in nonprofits/open source.
One additional feature I saw on Fedora magazine that I think would be
useful on other pages is the social media bar at the top right. How
useful would this be for gaining followers/subscribers if this were to
be added to:
* the Fedora Project Wiki
* discussion.fedoraproject.org
* ask.fedoraproject.org

Re: Pitch for Cockpit article series
by Paul Frields
Hey Shaun, sorry for the late reply. But I love the idea of this
series. I would offer one thing, which is that, in keeping with prior
practice, we probably wouldn't title these with 'part 1, 2, 3...' etc.
or call it a series unless/until 3 articles are in. But I'm confident
you can deliver these! And a Cockpit series would be AMAZING to run in
the Magazine, so you have my +1!

Paul out for tomorrow's meeting
by Paul Frields
Hi folks, I know some of us are traveling to Flock this week. I'm
probably still going to be en route to Budapest at the time of our
weekly meeting tomorrow. So if someone could run it, that would be
great.
We have articles already scheduled for tomorrow and for Friday the
9th. We do need things for next week IIRC, but there is a HDYF article
ready for editing (see Charles' separate thread) and we may have at
least one other article on the way that we can pull together for next
Wednesday coverage.

Error in "Use Postfix to get email from your Fedora system"
by Gregory Bartholomew
It looks like an error may have been introduced during the editing of the
"Use Postfix" article.
I think the values used in password_maps file and the main.cf file need to
match. Otherwise "WantAuthError" shows up in the logs:
Aug 03 12:12:57 eb2027-01.cs.siue.edu postfix/smtp[8960]: 11DFB19523: to=<
gregory.lee.bartholomew(a)gmail.com>, relay=smtp.gmail.com[74.125.69.109]:587,
delay=0.39, delays=0.03/0.04/0.3/0.02, dsn=5.5.1, status=bounced (host

f17sm75891337ioc.2 - gsmtp (in reply to MAIL FROM command))
I had used "[smtp.gmail.com]:587" in both places because smtp.gmail.com is
an SMTP server, not a domain name against which an MX query should be run.
From the man page:
$ man postconf.5 | grep -A 19 ^relayhost
relayhost (default: empty)
The next-hop destination of non-local mail; overrides non-local
domains in recipient addresses. This information is overruled with
relay_transport, sender_dependent_default_transport_maps,
default_transport, sender_dependent_relayhost_maps and with the
transport(5)
table.
On an intranet, specify the organizational domain name. If your
internal DNS uses no MX records, specify the name of the intranet gate‐
way host instead.
In the case of SMTP, specify a domain name, hostname,
hostname:port, [hostname]:port, [hostaddress] or [hostaddress]:port. The
form
[hostname] turns off MX lookups.
If you're connected via UUCP, see the UUCP_README file for useful
information.
Examples:
relayhost = $mydomain
relayhost = [gateway.example.com]
relayhost = uucphost
relayhost = [an.ip.add.ress]
Also, the Wikipedia page on MX records points out some limitations with the
MX protocol:
"The MX mechanism does not grant the ability to provide mail service on
alternative port numbers <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_number>, nor
does it provide the ability to distribute mail delivery across a set of
unequal-priority mail servers by assigning a weighting value to each one." (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MX_record)
So, I think "[smtp.gmail.com]:587" is the proper value. I think other/newer
tricks are used to load balance the smtp.gmail.com DNS name and route
traffic to the nearest/best server and MX lookups should be avoided in this
case. I could be wrong though. I'm not an expert in this field.
