graphics
by Marc Wiriadisastra
I was just browsing mugshot as I do. I know Nicu has some dvd/cd covers
and other graphics on his site which are brilliant. I just wanted to
say I found these today as well and I have to say all this art is
brilliant.
http://www.molaora.com/index.php/blog/show/CD-cover.html
There are other bits and pieces on the site so have a look around.
Maybe we need to create a fedora art pack of sorts? Cause I'm really
liking all the graphics being released from Nicu and others.
Only thing though is that I love how the desktop background changes
colours in F8 so I'm not to sure if we would lose that if we switched
backgrounds.
Cheers,
Marc

Fedora struggles with harm reduction via Codec Buddy
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi,
Very interesting take on a thorny issue. Some questions about the nature
of the agreement is also answered here..
http://www.linux.com/feature/120703
"In public health, harm reduction is a practice that, rather than trying
to eradicate potentially dangerous choices like prostitution, tries to
minimize their effects. Often, the practice involves a limited condoning
of the practice, such as safe injection sites for addicts. Harm
reduction is the path that Fedora 8 has chosen on the issue of MP3 and
other non-free codecs in the form of Codec Buddy, a Codeina-based
program that tries to educate users about free software while giving
them easy legal access to codecs by linking to the commercial Fluendo
site. It's a decision about which the Fedora Board and community leaders
feel considerable ambivalence."

OLPC makes it to India
by Marc Wiriadisastra
Hey All,
Just thought I would post this reference for Fedora being the base for
OLPC.
http://linuxhelp.blogspot.com/2007/11/olpc-makes-its-entry-into-india-fin...
When the OLPC first made news, a prominent official in the HRD ministry
of the Indian government had gone on record snubbing the OLPC project
($100 laptop), even making a preposterous claim that work was under way
to create India's own $10 laptop. But as things have worked out, OLPC
has already made an entry into India in the form of a pilot project in a
rural primary school in a village in the state of Maharasthra.

My first event but...
by Laith Juwaidah
Hi,
An open day will be held in one of the biggest universities in the country
on the 6th of Nov.
I want to participate but I've got some problems:
1. I don't think I can do everything on my own, I tried to contact the other
ambassador in the country, Mr. Yasser Al-Shaqsi, twice, but I haven't got
any reply.
2. I don't have the material I need: I don't have T-shirts, I don't have a
projector. All I have is a laptop where people can try Fedora...
3. I don't know about this but it's stupid to say to someone "Here's the
seventh version. Oh! BTW, the eighth version will be released after 3
days"!!!!
So, what do you think? Should I go for it, or should I just wait till the
next event? (The nearest even I know about is COMEX which will be in April)
:(
Cheers!

spins.fpo design
by Máirín Duffy
Hey folks,
Just an update on the spins.fpo design I've been working on. At this
point I am sure it will not make f8's release but I'd like to get it up
as soon as is reasonable post-release. :)
So, remember the mockups i did a while back? I started HTML-ifying them;
I just finished with the main content for the spins details mock (still
need to add the fpo template to it as well as the icons):
- HTML: http://duffy.fedorapeople.org/temp/spins/spin-details.html
- Mockup: http://duffy.fedorapeople.org/temp/spindetailsmock2.png
The other HTML I want to do is for this mockup:
- Mockup: http://duffy.fedorapeople.org/temp/spinsmock5.png
(the banner at the top will be replaced with new artwork! something like
this: http://duffy.fedorapeople.org/temp/spins/djs.png)
Overall I think the spins.fpo site should have the following pages:
-- main page: introduction to what spins are
|
|-- spin details page
| |
| |- bittorrent tutorial
| |
| |_ what's my arch tutorial
|
|-- what is a spin / how do i use a spin page
|
|__ how do i create my own spin? page
The open work items I see from a design POV are:
1 - Content for the how to create my own spin page (any suggestions on
existing content I can use for this page?) (0% done AFAIK)
2 - Content for the what is a spin / how do i use a spin page? (any
suggestions on existing content I can use for this page?) (0% done AFAIK)
3 - Mockups & HTML for the 6 pages in the above sitemap (maybe 25% there)
4 - Finish DJ banner artwork for the main page (80% done)
5 - Obtain photos from willing Fedora users to represent the spins (25%,
Manuel Amador has provided me photos, I may need to make a formal call
for photo submissions or start taking photos of innocent vict^H^H^H^H
volunteers around the office :))
6 - Get all the content into i18n-able templates and into git... Work
out a mechanism to generate a details page for each spin and get content
into it? (0% done, any ideas?)
Eventually I think we will need a spins 'directory' but thus far we have
few enough spins we dn't have to worry about that yet.
Anyhow, I hope this gives a clear picture of where we're at for the
blingtastic spins page; if anybody has answers/suggestions for the open
work items above do share :)
