DVD-Guides.com - Fedora Review
by Marc Wiriadisastra
"Usage
First impression / Looks
The first think I noticed after booting Fedora for the first time is the
amazing new look. Fedora is one of the distros that didn't care about
looks originally but with the two last releases they have done a great
job."

Quite a nice review.

3 new introductions
by Max Spevack
All,
I'd like to introduce 3 new additions to Fedora Marketing List: Leigh
Day, Kerrin Catallozzi, and Caroline Kazmierski.
Leigh Day is the director of Corporate Communications at Red Hat. She
is the overall point person for all of Red Hat's PR and communications
efforts. Kerrin Catallozzi works for Leigh, and has helped with the
Fedora press releases and such for the last few releases. Finally,
Caroline Kazmierski is Fedora's main resource for media outreach -- all
of the articles that get published each release are because of her
tireless work in setting up conversations between Fedora folks and
reporters, and helping to make sure all of that gets coordinated.
In particular, Jack Aboutboul and I have worked with the three of them
quite a bit, and there was no good reason why they weren't on
fedora-marketing-list, where they will be able to get a closer feel to
how the community side of Fedora marketing works, and hopefully we can
all work together better.
Just wanted to make some introductions, so that their names would have
some context around them for those of you who don't already know them.
Thank you all,
Max

Does Fedora 8 deserve intellectual welfare
by Marc Wiriadisastra
"Fedora 8 came out today and quite frankly, it sucks. I’m a Fedora user
and I run Fedora on about 10 servers right now, including this one that
hosts Dvorak Uncensored. But even though I’m a fan I think that it’s
time to end the intellectual welfare that all the Linux reviewers give
it and raise the bar to the same standards that commercial software is
judged by. What is that standard you ask? It’s the standard of “does it
work”. My conclusion - no - it doesn’t. Fedora 8 is broken."
It seems like a rant more than anything from my point of view. Some
valid points but overall a rant.

Distribution List Inquiry
by Markus McLaughlin
How do I get on the distribution list? I want to mail off 100 Fedora
8 Live CDs by late January! This will be my first foray into helping
Fedora out and putting in a small "plug"
for LinuxGlobe as well. I have to limit the mailings to New England
USA, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont,
and Maine. I want to help Fedora because it is the best OS out there.
Public Awareness is key to continued
success for Fedora, LinuxGlobe can help in this manner. My hope for
Fedora 9 is
a MAC-Like Interface in the GNOME part and a Vista-Like Interface for
the KDE part.
Of course, original innovations are also desired like a Calendar
widget accessed from
the top menu or a news/sports/stock ticker that is also a hot key
application when the cursor moves over it. Congratulation on
"Werewolf!" Onward and forward!!!

fedora-8-review: Lunapark 6
by Marc Wiriadisastra
"The most disappointing aspect about the release would be its finicky
installer. Sure if you have certain hardware, you may never go through
the troubles I encountered, but my setup is hardly what you would call
esoteric. Yet, I did have to jump through hurdles just to get the system
up and running. Both of my test computers, Big Bertha (AMD 64 +3000,
Nvidia 6600, 2 GB RAM, 19” Samsung 192n monitor and Soundblaster Audigy)
and Mount Doona (AMD X2 +4400, 2 GB RAM, 24” Samsung 244T), were unable
to install via the normal installation mode and had to use the text
installation mode. Furthermore, once the main text installation was
completed, the final stage (where normal users are added) were not
available for me."
