Summit: Linux Advances Into Enterprise, Seeks Better Fix For Bugs
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi,
If you want some stats on the scale of the Fedora 7 bugs Dave Jones is
talking about, refer
http://kernelslacker.livejournal.com/116718.html
http://www.informationweek.com/news/software/linux/showArticle.jhtml?arti...
"Bug reporting is a priority of the kernel developers. Responding to
prompting by lead kernel integrator Linus Torvalds 3 years ago, they
began worrying less about catching each bug and more about incorporating
changes in each iteration of the kernel. Let the larger community help
detect and correct bugs, was the thinking at the time, several
developers said.
The practice ran into a response last year from Dave Jones at Red Hat,
who said he feared the number of bugs in the 2.6.21 kernel was going to
lead to problems as it became part of Red Hat's community Linux, Fedora.
"I was incredibly nervous" about the shipping Fedora 7, he recounted
yesterday, and in a blog on June 7 last year he acknowledged the reason
he was nervous: "Looking at the first round of bugs that came in during
the week after F7's release, it's pretty horrific." "

Fedora Themes
by Paul W. Frields
This is an elevation of a note from a previous thread, since Russell
Harrison was kind enough to let me know it was important.
Let's avoid referring to our Fedora Themes of "Freedom, Folks, Features,
First" with the terminology "four F's." That's because there's an old
wartime connotation of "4-F" that we want to assiduously avoid:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4F#Classifications
I think the one thing all Fedora people can agree on is that Fedora
*ALWAYS* passes muster! ;-)
I like the term "Fedora Themes," but I couldn't find another good word
starting with "F" to substitute for "Themes." It's not important
whether we all use the word "Themes," but let's not use "four F's."
Thanks!

Live CD Interview
by Jonathan Roberts
Hi all,
In a slight change with the previous programme, the latest interview has
gone up on Red Hat Magazine! The reason for this is that they liked the
content and wanted to use it, plus it will increase our exposure. And
they've agreed to co-post it, so we hvae a copy on the wiki too for
posterities sake!
You may notice, however, that there's not a copy on the wiki as I was
having some issues with time outs and errors so I couldn't edit the
page. You may also notice that I'm not providing a digg link in this
e-mail either, because again luck seems to be against me today and digg
keeps dumping me to a fatal error!
If anybody wants to step up and help out with the promotion feel free to
do the job for me, as I'm going to leave it until the morning now since
I'm pretty sleepy tonight.
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/SpreadingNews will be your
friend :)
It's with Jeremy Katz about live cds, persistance and all those other
cool goodies. Oh, and the story link:

Best wishes, and good night to all!

Web Badges
by Michael Beckwith
In light of wanting to play around with Inkscape a little bit, and
following an Inkscape tutorial, I have created some Fedora web
badges[1]. You know, those little tiny bar graphics that advertise
various things. I even got inspired by the marketing team's recent "4
F's" stories, and created some for each F. Comments, criticisms, plans
for use all appreciated.

Associating the Red Hat and Fedora brands?
by Greg DeKoenigsberg
So I'm going to ask this question to you, the friendly Fedora marketing
team.
But first, a history lesson:
http://lwn.net/Articles/83360/
This is pretty much the most accurate depiction of how the great brand
gulf between Fedora and Red Hat started. And in many people's minds, that
gulf has grown to such an extent that many don't have any way of
associating Red Hat with Fedora *at all*.
So let me ask you:
If, in splash screens for Fedora, we put a tasteful "sponsored by Red Hat"
with the Shadowman logo somewhere small... how would you all feel about
that?

[Fwd: Final Freeze coming--feature page updates needed]
by John Poelstra
This email was sent to all individual feature owners. I'm sending it a
few other place to keep everyone in the loop and to route around those
that have black-listed the feature wrangler's or are waiting for me to
send post cards ;-)
If you are depending on information about the features below you may
want to set wiki page watches to track changes and updates
Thanks,
John

Subject: Final Freeze coming--feature page updates needed

From: John Poelstra <poelstra(a)redhat.com>
Hello Feature People :)
With final development freeze coming on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 (two days
from now in most parts of the world--less in others), sadly this is one
of the last times you'll be able to receive nag mail from me for Fedora
9. ;-)
Final Development Freeze, defined here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/ReleaseEngineering/FinalFreezePolicy means
that all features must be at 100% completion by this date.
Yes, we know "this is Fedora" and "stuff is never 100% done" and all the
usual arguments about "what does percentage completion really mean,
etc., etc.", but for the average user and members of the other Fedora
teams it is important and very helpful to make one last update to your
feature page... and for those that will still complain, please make some
constructive suggestions for improving the process and lobby to change
it for Fedora 10 :) These feature pages are pointed to by a lot by the
press and used by many other teams to turn Fedora into a polished
looking release so your help is greatly needed and appreciated.
You have the distinct privilege of receiving this message because you
are listed as the owner for one or more features that are not listed at
100% completion, though many are very close!

I've received several questions in the past about what to do to bring a
feature page to 100% or what to do if all the advertised things on the
feature page can't be completed in time. Hopefully this helps...
1) If you implemented all of the things described on your feature page
and the package is in rawhide, update to 100%
2) If you DID NOT implement all of the things described on your feature
page
a) change the feature page to reflect all the things you DID
complete for Fedora 9
b) make sure the package is in rawhide
c) update to 100%
d) if you plan to do more unfinished exciting things in F10 move
them to a new feature page
3) If your feature page will end up being empty or very brief in order
to honestly say it is 100% done it probably should be removed from the
Fedora 9 feature list. Simply change the category of your feature page
to CategoryProposedFeature (from CategoryAcceptedFedora9) and let me know
4) If this is still confusing, please contact me :)
Thanks for your help,
