Reminder: Fedora marketing meeting today
by Greg DeKoenigsberg
On #fedora-mktg. 1900 UTC, 3pm Eastern US.
The agenda, as always:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/Tasks
* Talk bubble stickers. Mo, an update?
* Wish list for Istanbul videos. MichaelBeckwith has some ideas.
* Event box update from JeffreyTadlock.
And then, I'd like to talk about collateral. It's all over the place. I
think it might be useful to get one kick-ass repository of all the awesome
Fedora content. (Maybe even... an RPM. Crazy? Shocking? "yum install
fedora-mktg-stuff"? You tell me.)
Let's kick some ideas around today.

I want a virtual Fedora coffee table book and you are going to help me get it.
by Jef Spaleta
So, does anyone remember a book called "Love" where this photographer
found this cheap little plastic heart with the word Love on it and
decided to get a candid picture of as many 'interesting' people
holding that little chunk of plastic as they could. The photographer
then compiled the pictures into a little coffee table book full of
these pictures and little stories concerning the meeting. A book I
repeatedly bought as a standard gift back when i was dating and V-day
rolled around. But I digress....
I would really love, absolutely love, to see us compile a book like
that..filled with pictures of our contributors holding up a certain
trinket common plastic trinket which symbolized what our project
stands for. Fill the book with pictures and short little testimonials
concerning that person and Fedora.
We'd have to decide on a trinket that people could easily get their hands on.
If we make it a physical traditional publication, we sell it and give
the profits to a charity. Or we can make it an at-cost on-demand
publication. We could even hand them out as recognition awards.

Fedora on Slashdot topics
by Dimitris Glezos
I just noticed that Fedora isn't listed on the Slashdot topics:
http://slashdot.org/topics.shtml
And Slashdot editors fall back in using the Red Hat symbol with their
Fedora announcements. Any reason not to request adding Fedora there?

Ubuntu 8.04 vs. Fedora 9
by Valent Turkovic
http://osnews.com/story/19818/Ubuntu-8.04-vs.-Fedora-9
When it comes to Fedora, there were a few problems on the X.org side,
but what they loved was the support for SELinux. " Most users will
find that the biggest benefit of SELinux is its management of root
user authority: The program alerts you when you've had root privileges
activated for more than a few minutes, so you can minimize your
exposure from this vulnerability."

Fedora contributor video series experiment
by Jef Spaleta
Just as an experiment... would anyone be willing to setup a laptop
with a video capture camera running cheese at FUDCon so we can capture
some candid documentary styled interviews of individual contributors?
I want video of people sitting down, stating their names and answer a
single pre-defined question. I don't need it to be high quality. I
just want to experiment with this sort of footage as a way to put a
human face on the project but doesn't need a lot of editting to be
useful.
So if you are going to FUDCon and think this is an interesting
experiment, here is what I'd like to see.
1) A laptop with cheese running set up so that people can sit down in
front of a reasonable neutral background...blank wall of any color
would be fine.
2) A simple script that we ask everyone to follow where they are asked
to state their name, state the question they are going to answer and
state the answer.
3) Give people a time limit of a couple of minutes per personal theora video.
So the only thing is really.. what question to ask people. If
someone is willing to put the hardware together to attempt to
experiment. I'll convince the Board to provide the question to ask and
we'll see how this sort of thing goes over. If we like the result and
think we can use it, we can replicate it by asking ambassadors to
repeat this sort of thing at different global events and build up
footage in different languages that we can edit together as needed for
marketing purposes.

Hello, this is my first message, wanna tell all first that is an honor to me joining this project
by RazGriz
Hello everyone, please let me tell you my history with Fedora and The Free
software world.
I'm Guilherme Gonçalves from Rio de Janeiro *(Brazil) but the community
prefer call me "Razgriz"*(i really don't know why but perhaps...my ex-wife
can explain this thing one day if...).
My first contact with tux was in 1996 and i am a "pure"*(100% free software
user) user since 1997. But my contributions inside the world of free
software started only in the earlies of 2005 writing documentation about
computer graphics with free software at "vol"*(www.vivaolinux.com.br), some
months after my first doc, Davidson Paulo(the creator of the old project
"Guia Bozolinux" and now a Ambassador) invited me to write a book about the
"Gnu Image Manipulation Program*(Gimp), it was a huge and very ambitious
project but in the end with hard work yeah we did it! =] then since that
great moment my life was turned into a goal : the community must respect the
computer graphics made with free software but first the community must know
more about it ! Then i will continue doing documentation to teach all thing
that i know and what i will learn about it in the future.
Well, my history with Fedora starts in 2007, when i met Rodrigo Padula and
Cristiano Furtado*(jasoonfedora) and he convinced me to get fedora and try
it during the event, after some time inside the same event he invited me to
join the ambassadors team, but thanks to problems with time we lost contact.
A couple of months later he invited me to joying the artwork team of the
project "Revista Fedora Brazil" <http://www.projetofedora.org/Revista> and
now i feel that i can help more making my work in the magazine padronizing
the layout, creating new visual stuff for the project and helping with other
tasks and taking fedora to my classes in the Linux events that my default
mini-course "The Gimp for creative minds" and other actions where invited.
Well, here i am to help everyone and contribute with everything that i can,
i will do my best to the project as you all make every time.
just one last ask, if someone wanna know more about computergraphics, please
just send me an email and i will help you, and if you know portuguese and
think that stuff is usefull please translate this to other language =].
