"The Fedora Project announced the opening of the 2011 Fedora Scholarship program, an award that recognizes the contributions of college and University students toward the project. It is awarded to one high school senior annually to assist in college or university education. This is the fourth year since this particular scholarship program has taken off. "The decision came during the same meeting that the board unanimously decided to add a new statement to Fedora's legal guidelines concerning the inclusion of hacking tools....Smith said the language is intended to clarify its stance on a class of software that can be used both to secure and penetrate protected networks. “It's very much a gray area, and as a Board we wanted to ensure that we were careful and deliberate about the kinds of tools we choose to put in Fedora,” he explained. it's actually an author's blog on a news site, so some might not deem that news, but be that as it may: "To be fair, I have not contacted Bacon for his side of this story, but the fact that Fedora has publicly posted this as part of their Board notes gives me some confidence of the validity of the statement....The other thing that must happen for respect in open source communities to occur, in my view is the oversight of a neutral third party. Reminder: Fedora marketing weekly meeting today! - 11/09/2010, 21:00UTC, in #fedora-meeting-1

Just a quick note: Daylight savings switched over for the majority of North America over the weekend. I'm going to just forge ahead and keep the meeting at the same relative time for those in NA (4pm Eastern, 1pm Pacific), but the actual UTC time changes to 2100. If anyone has any objections and can't make the meeting as a result, PLEASE let the list know - I don't want to miss anyone's participation! I realize that the current meeting details (seen here - https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing_meetings#Meeting_details) show that we stick with UTC, but I think this may not be the norm with other meetings in the project. Fedora meetup in the Silicon Valley this Tuesday Nov 9, 2010

Hello Folks, The Large Installation System Administrators conference (LISA) in San Jose, CA this Tuesday November 9. Here the conference provides free function space to discuss topics of interest to system administrators as "Birds of A Feather" (BOF) sessions. I have secured a room for Fedora at 9 pm. At this meeting, we will celebrate F14, encourage sysadmins to try Fedora, discuss Fedora Features of interest to sysadmins, offer on-site Fedora installation assistance, recruit contributors, and chat about how Fedora is being used in the wild. The nature of BOF meetings is usually informal and adhoc. A major part of this is accomplished by speaking about Fedora (spreading the word) and providing interested users with Fedora media so they can try it out. The Fedora Distribution process[1] was initially set up as the central point of contact that was to handle and coordinate the different channels that are available to spread Fedora media around. Over the years, sadly, the coordination has been lost, and now we see the channels as independent bits. As a small example: You'll find tickets in the free media list from folks who have Ambassadors in their vicinities themselves. If the channels were coordinated, we could ask these people to contact the Ambassadors nearby and get themselves media burnt : saving time, effort *and* enabling the free media to be used for other people who don't have Ambassadors around them. Some of us have recently been working on tweaking the process. We've come up with a draft here[1] that we'd like you to please review and comment on.
