Self Introduction: Nelson Marques

Hi all,
My name is Nelson Marques and I'm natural from Aveiro, Portugal. I'm a
graduate Marketing Management student in IPAM (Portuguese Institute for
Marketing Administration, http://www.ipam.pt).
My experience with Linux started in 1999 with Red Hat 5.0 as a hobby.
In 2001 I've organized a Linux Promotion event in Aveiro Congress
Center, which accounted over 500 visitors during the weekend. This event
was sponsored by SuSE GmbH and Sun Microsystems alongside with local
GNU/Linux enablers and hardware companies.
My Marketing experience comes mainly to a Market Study about the
National Footwear Industry and another Market Study for National Vodka
Consumer habits, both of them were made through the Institute I attend.
I've also developed some work/strategy for 2 communication campaigns (1
Fashion event and one Social Reponsability campaign).
I'm currently developing some work to present to GNOME
(http://www.gnome.org), mainly a communcation campaign to position the
GNOME Brand as a environmental friendly and social responsible brand.
This campaign will be named "Save the Wildlife" and will promote
endangered species through the advertising of GNOME Releases (each
release will have the name of a endangered species), challenges to the
GNOME community, such as artists and the promotion of GPL through donner
media to be used in GNOME Themes and distributed under GPL.
I'm also working on an article for the GNOME Journal that targets the
differences between open source software and proprietary software,
specially their Marketing Mix and Product Mix. The same article will
also cover some "open source vs free software" philosophy. It counts
with interviews from the Evince and Brasero developers, Richard Stallman
and I've also contacted Ahead A.G. and Miguel de Icaza for interview,
currently waiting for an answer.
I don't have expectations about this list, I'm just willing to place in
some work to help GNU/Linux and Fedora. One of the points that made me
join was the fact that Fedora has very well organized documentation and
I actually feel like Fedora has a much more realistic approach on
Marketing than other projects. This might be a good environment to
contribute and expand my knowledge.
I do have my graduation paper to start and this experience could help
me decide actually what I want to do.
One of the things that make me sad was the fact that all the software
used during my degree was proprietary, and there are open source
projects that are pretty cool, for example: PSPP. Eventually I'm
thinking on working on PSPP as a code contributor, but not in the short
time as I have still another project running.
If there's something I can help with, I'm available, meanwhile I'm
just gonna sit and lurk for 1 or 2 weeks, so I can process the
information available and get to know how people work and the best way
to fit in.

Call for Partiticipation Fedora KDE Desktop Edition Talking Points

Hello Everyone,
Talking points are key highlights of the new release. They should be
compelling, but they will not necessarily be comprehensive. There are
different types of talking points for different types of people:
general desktop users/everyone, developers, and sysadmins. They are
meant to provide a short, effective answer to the question, "What cool
stuff is in the latest release of the Fedora KDE Desktop Edition?"
Each cycle, the Marketing team compiles a short list of approximately
three talking points for each of these audiences for the upcoming
release. For this release, we will, with the help of the KDE SIG team,
be creating a set of talking points for the KDE Desktop Edition. For
Fedora 13, they're found here:

If you have a talking point that you feel meets the criteria found on
the talking points SOP page at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Talking_points_SOP, add it to the the
table on the F13 page with supporting information. Please make your
changes to the wiki page, so that the Marketing team and KDE SIG can
efficiently capture and consider your input.
The Marketing team and KDE SIG will make final adjustments to the list of
talking points at the KDE SIG meeting on March 2, which will be announced
on the Fedora KDE list and is open to everyone. If you are interested in
attending the meeting, the agenda, location, and time details can be

the meeting, the finalized list of talking points will be announced,

Hello ,
this is my first post.
My name's is Stefano, i'm italian.
I have a bachelor in Marketing, and i work in a Company as Marketing
Director.
I'm new about Fedora, i use linux since 2007 but with an other distro.
Now i'm tring to use Fedora, and i hope to change my dirstro definitly.
I love Fedora:
- For the name
- For the design
- Because it's innovative
- Because it's Linux
- Because it's only a community and not a company,
I must try, and do major experience. i'm a beginner.
I belive in a marketing open source, i try to discuss about with the other
community of an other distro, but the think only at Operative Marketing and
they think to say all about marketing unless discuss.

Just so y'all know this is coming up - I plan on being there to
represent, but seconds, backup, witty commentary, lurking, etc. is
absolutely welcome.
For those who haven't yet seen a readiness meeting and wonder what it
looks like: a sample log for F12 is at

- this is the Beta log, the Alpha meeting was by phone last release.
It's mostly a sanity check and sync-up, and is really Not A Huge Deal,
but it's neat to see where all the other teams stand.
Historically, the role of Marketing in these meetings has been to say
"yeah, our release deliverables are looking good, <here are links!> and
we're not blocking anything nor being blocked by anyone, carry on!"
Let's keep up that track record. ;)

F13 talking points final announcement (draft)

This is what I'm likely to send out as a call for "this is our final
set, descriptions being edited please help!" to the usual marketing
deliverables announcement list recipients. (marketing, devel,
advisory-board) when I wake up in the morning. Patches before then
welcome. ;)
There's a bit of cleanup left to do on talking points (as described in
the bottom of this email) - help is uberwelcome, but it's on my plate to
make sure this gets done, and I'll be pinging for help on this list and
on IRC as needed. Y'all should worry about getting the slogan up and
SOP'd in parallel, since we only have a week for that. (It's looking
awesome, though.)

Call for F13 release slogan suggestions

Greetings Friends,
We need a slogan for the F13 release. It will be chosen one week from
now, on 3/2. A release slogan is a short call-to-action that fits the
artwork theme from Design, found at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F13_release_slogan#Themes. (F12's
slogan was "Unite.")
If you are interested in suggesting ideas for the release slogan,
please take a look at the Release Slogan SOP, and the criteria for
selection, at https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Release_slogan_SOP. The
slogan must be:
* short (1-3 words)
* a call to action
* positive
It should reinforce that Fedora helps the user achieve something
great. It should also reflect some of ideas and themes found in the
release artwork, and, if possible, also touch upon the Four
Foundations (http://https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Foundations).
