F13 one page release notes - feedback / suggestions for sprinting
by Robyn Bergeron
Hi all,
I'd love to be around during Allegheny student-time today but it
conflicts with my daughter's $dayjob (elementary school student, lol).
Here are a few suggestions for the One Page Release Notes:
* Under "how to get started" - maybe we could add something about a
USB key? I think this is particularly useful for those who are running
netbooks and such that don't -have- CD drives. Also - it's a really
cool feature!
* Under color management - where there is a comment about vagueness -
one thing that really resonates and is easy to understand is the idea
that things will print out with the colors you intended.
* Under easy print - the part about nvidia video cards can go, it's
being covered in Video drivers.
* I would love to see more about the Fedora Community being
highlighted - I think a great thing to do in the "Help make fedora"
section would be to talk a bit about the "Friends" Foundation, and
make sure that "Foundation" links back to the Foundations wiki page.
I think the four F's really click with poeple and we should take time
to try and introduce at least one - if not touch somehow on ALL of
them - in the one page release notes. Even if it's not being
described, necessarily - talking about Freedom, Friends, Features,
First - having each of those words throughout the document -
emphasizes the things we believe in.
* Expanding content just a bit under system administrators and
developers - I'd suggest content ideas here, but I'm out of time!

Follow up questions for BTRFS profile
by Hannah Kowen
Hi Josef (and everyone),
I was emailed some follow up questions that I'm forwarding onto you.
- How many developers are working on Btrfs full time and from Red Hat?
What do they focus on?
- How good is that Ext3/Ext4 in place conversion?
- Are there any good benchmarks available for performance?
- What does the roadmap look like and is there any major pending features
or is it all just bug fixes and stabilization work going forward?
- Is there any features that ZFS has that Btrfs does not at this point?
I can put them up onto the profile whenever you get a chance to look at
them.
Also, here is the link to the profile again,
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Btrfs_in_Fedora_13. I also wanted to let
everyone know that after the next couple days I won't really be able to work
on the profile anymore, so if there is something you think should be added,
please feel free to add it to the page. I enjoyed working on it and hope
that the release goes great.
Thanks,
Hannah Kowen

Update for Fedora teams: What's happening with the Allegheny class?
by Mel Chua
Just checked in with jadudm and updated the #fedora-mktg channel, but
figured the other two teams (as well as Marketing folks who are not
in-channel right now) should also know, and that the FS102 students
should see what's being said about them. ;)
Thank you, as always, for being part of this grand experiment. I'm
*really* pleased with what we've done and what we've learned so far.
--Mel
15:46 < mchua> ok - update for folks looking for Allegheny people: this
week is their last week of class to work on projects, and they're out
filming video interviews about what they've done so far
15:46 < mchua> they also have a reflection paper that we'll be getting
which should provide a lot of insight on what the new contrib experience
is like
15:46 < mchua> so a lot of them are off doing that today
15:46 < mchua> but they have been encouraged to hit the lists and tell
us how they're winding down their projects
15:47 * mchua hopes this is accurate, will send to mktg list and ask
jadum and DarrenMiller to correct if needed
15:47 < mchua> so after class today I'll be looking at the status of
each team's project and seeing what we know and what we've seen from the
Fedora side of what they've done
15:48 < mchua> and then we can go from there (They might go "oh, we did
more, here is where you haven't found it yet" or someone else in Fedora
might go "oh, Mel, you totally missed X")
15:48 < mchua> and thursday is our chance to wind down with 'em
15:48 < mchua> and then... well, we'll have the release
15:48 < mchua> But after that we'll be sure to do a debrief about how
the class experience went, and how we can do better next time.
15:48 * mchua is, overall, very pleased
15:48 < mchua> (and barely keeping up)
15:49 * mchua --> deliverables!

Security spin website: things needed for completion
by Mel Chua
Hi! We're sprinting (as you may have noticed) on the spin pages for the
F13 release. Will be addressing each spin page separately - right now,
this email is about the Security spin. Sending to Websites list, current
spin owners, and Marketing (for a content sanity check).
Just talked with Hiemanshu on IRC about this, and here's what needs to
be done (Hiemanshu has offered to do it, but is also on vacation now, so
any help would, I'm sure, be welcomed. ;) Anything I'm missing from this
list, please add. And if you'd like this on the websites trac instead,
let me know and I can do that (Hiemanshu requested it as an email to the
list).
--Mel
== blocking ==
* Download: Make sure download links point to the correct image.
== non-blocking ==
* Content: done enough to ship; if we want a more extensive "About" tab,
someone should write it though.
* Screenshots: ok, but old from F12; new ones need to be taken and uploaded.
* Support: edit page to point to the Fedora Security community resources
(wherever that is - do you folks have a mailing list or IRC channel?
right now the page points only to generic ones).
* How To Help: Hiemanshu would like to compile a package wishlist and
have it available from the spin website so people can start helping with
that; this may be easiest to do as a wiki page that gets linked to, but
in any case we'll let whoever picks up this task figure out how they
want to do it.
== done ==
* Design: appears to be all set. Hurrah for the design team!
* Website exists: yes, http://spins.fedoraproject.org/security
* Website linked from main spins.fp.o page: yes

Feature profiles and press blogs
by Paul W. Frields
I wanted to say a quick thank you to the people who have been
preparing feature profiles for pre-Fedora 13 release. Red Hat also
commits some resources to your feature profiles as well. Kara
Schiltz, our Fedora PR person, puts together a press blog entry for
the Red Hat site at www.press.redhat.com, to help drive interest in
these stories. We use those entries, which are seen by many tech
journalists and reporters, to drive attention to the feature profiles
you've created through links and background information.
I also work with Red Hat's Creative team to create a couple of
feature-specific videos each release. The videos cover those features
as well, helping to achieve our goal of "simplify and amplify" (to
quote Greg DeKoenigsberg).
We do several of these per cycle -- we've completed one
(NetworkManager, thanks Nelson!) already. A Python feature is set to
premiere tomorrow (thanks Mel and Allegheny students!), along with a
video in the press blog entry, and it will be followed next week by
one on Desktop hardware enablements (thanks Robyn!).
This reinforcement strategy has been fairly successful based on the
information Red Hat generates internally about web traffic. In the
future we could use a platform like Insight to create additional
media, even when we can't lean on Red Hat resources as heavily as we
can around release time, and the Marketing team could then use the web
traffic information to inform strategy.

Python in Fedora 13 feature profile
by Paul W. Frields
Mel et al.,
I took a look at the "Python in Fedora 13" page and the interview
looks to be fairly complete. However, the information dump at the top
of the wiki page is confusing because I can't tell if the feature
profile is done or not. Is there still some material intended to land
on this page before Tuesday morning?
