We often get inquiries from magazines asking for permission to bundle one
or more Fedora discs with a future issue. This is a fairly routine
process as long as the disc is an unmodified copy of Fedora media (i.e. an
official release). Some interaction with Red Hat Legal is required to
send out an agreement to the magazine.
We can speed up that interaction and the overall process if we have a page
that tells magazines what they need to provide, and to whom, for a
covermount agreement. Generally we need the following information, sent
to the ''press(a)fp.o'' address:
* The name (d/b/a) and address of the company producing the magazine
* The exact disc(s) that are to be bundled
* Contact information for the person making the request

I had suggested this earlier to Robyn -- a press blog entry for Red Hat's
PR channel (http://press.redhat.com) that would synopsize and point to our
interview on the wiki. However, Robyn's pretty busy right now. Kara
Schiltz from Red Hat's PR department is willing to publish something next
week.
I'm going to pick this up and drive it forward, my way of helping this
week on something Marketing related!

Hi,
Could we have a press-release for FUDCon KL 2012 which is happening this
May?. We are planning to distribute it to local newspapers and news sites.
We are originally planning to produce our own but FPL said that marketing
might want to do and approve it.
In term of dateline, .. erm .. is 27th March too short?, or more than
enough?. The earlier the better of course
Thanks.

Self Introduction: Thomas Denham
by Thomas Denham
Hi, my name is Thomas Denham and I live in the United Kingdom. My Fedora
Account System (FAS) username is tmfdenham, I am new to IRC and would
like help getting started!
I learned about the Fedora Marketing team through online research, and
am interested in joining because I am a desktop user of Fedora (17) and
feel passionately about the benefits of Linux (Fedora) as an OS and
predominantly FOSS.
This is the first FOSS project I have worked on!
I have had some limited experience of marketing in my day job and chair
a forum for 30 or so people in relation to my full time job which is all
about bringing people together. I have produced posters/flyers and had
to promote various projects.
My skills, which I hope to utilize in Fedora Marketing, include:
(Marketing Skills) – I feel I am apt at utilizing marketing strategies
and I am used to building rapport with people from all walks of life. I
understand the importance of PR and a multi-tiered approach to
marketing.
(Other Skills) – Every project I take on, I commit myself 100% and
really give it my all – I am an enthusiastic and driven person who would
love to put that energy into promoting Fedora to the general public and
highlighting the benefits of choosing this branch of Linux.
I am a relative new comer to Linux and Fedora so would like to learn
much more about the core of the business and how I can help to market
it.
When I'm not working on Fedora, I am working full time and fit in
hobbies around that!
A couple of goals I have for the Fedora Project are a marked increase in
uptake by the general computing population, and a clearer, wider
understanding of the importance of FOSS etc. In my area it is relatively
unheard of and I would like some support in marketing to as many people
as possible in a clear non-to-technical way.
I am wondering about what marketing resources you have collectively in
terms of posters, leaflets, online banners and introductory articles
that I could use to assist in marketing in my area.
I would also like some more information on how this marketing community
works as I have little idea!
I hope that I can begin to get actively involved in this community!
Please help me get started!
Kind Regards,
Thomas Denham

The use of social networks
by Kévin Raymond
Hi there,
I am not involved in other social things than the Fedora Planet and
our mailing lists… So this email is about an idea that I won't resolve
by myself :).
We just had an IRC discussion about the use of our social network on websites.
Couldn't we set up a broadcasting service to publish on our official
Facebook, Google+, identi.ca and Twitter pages?
Like what is sent through the announce mailing list, or to auto-send
announce message about the beta availability, the release day…
Also shooting the release notes link would be great, has people still
come asking "Is there anybody know where to get the info about the new
features and capability of fedora 17?" (just this morning on -docs).
There could also be something that I am not aware of..
Cheers,
