Coordination in social networks
by Jiri Eischmann
Hi,
the test season starts and our goal for this release is to get more
participants in test days. Social networks are a really good place to
spread the word about our test days. Unfortunately, Fedora
pages/accounts in social networks are not in a good shape.
Facebook - several pages, which one is official and who is its admin?
Google+ - no one has posted there since May, admin?
Twitter - the only account that gets new posts regularly
Identi.ca - the account "Fedora Users" is there, but no posts
There are tens of thousands people subscripted to our accounts. That's
not few and we should leverage it.
It'd be great to have a social media coordinator who'd make sure that
all important information gets posted at all social networks we're in,
and also persons responsible for individual social networks.
I'm sorry if I'm talking about something that has already been discussed
at weekly meetings. I can't attend them. Thursday evening is a really
bad time for me and I already spend two evenings a week at Fedora
meetings, another would kill me.

Fedora Video Contest Starts
by Nitesh Narayan
Hi,
Want to win a cool Fedora Tshirt and other swags , participate in Fedora Video Contest . The contest is starting today (5th September 2012) and will remain open for 1 month (5th October 2012).
The contest is really simple: we want you to make us a video. Rather, we want you to make a intro/outro template that we can use for the Fedora Videos project.
How To Participate ?
Make a intro + outro template that a video can be prefixed/suffixed with
Shine it up, real nice. Add some barbecue sauce maybe?
Put it up somewhere: dropbox/archive.org/...
Email us and let us know!
Wait.. wait.. wait.. to find out if you won yourself goodies and Fedora tshirt!
Now, since we're going to use your template for quite a few videos, all of the fedora videos project actually, we request you to license your material accordingly: please use CC by SA.
What is Fedora Videos Project, We have lots of community videos strewn around the interwebs. Some on Youtube, others on Vimeo, others are just hosted some place. They aren't really well organized, and so, it's difficult to find them when you need them. What we're trying to do is to take all these, add proper titles, subtitles, translations, licenses and place them at one location(archive.org) so that everyone can find and use them. That's where the contest comes in. We want a good intro/outro template that we can easily modify and use for the videos that we put up. Makes sense now, doesn't it?. If you want to eat some hot dogs with us while making community videos, come right in (link to mailing list mktg)!
For other details regarding the Fedora Video Contest visit the wiki page [1] . If you still have questions feel free to ask any of the video team members [2] .
So let the game begin , and lets give a hard time to our judges by lots of awesome participation .

Draft of Fedora Java Marketing Brief
by Dan Allen
As promised, I have drafted a marketing brief* about Fedora Java. "Fedora
Java" is about making Fedora the preferred environment of choice for Java
and JVM platform development.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Java/Fedora_Java_Marketing_Brief
Here's the TL;DR:
* Java is one of the most popular languages (#2 @ Tiobe Index, #5 @ github,
#1 @ sourceforge)
* ~ 8 million Java developers
* JVM supports many other languages, which means even more developers
* < 1% of these developers use Fedora
* Fedora Java SIG has made creating Java packages easy, consistent w/
packaging guidelines
* Fedora has the latest and most popular stuff on the JVM platform,
including Java 7 (OpenJDK), Eclipse 4.2, Maven 3, JBoss AS 7, Tomcat 7 and
JBoss Tools
* A Fedora Java Spin is in the works (currently a Fedora Remix)
* Fedora should be the operating system of choice for JVM platform
developers!
There have been huge strides made recently in the Fedora Java story, as I
cover in the brief. That's why I think this is a good storyline to
pursue when marketing Fedora 18. I think it can help attract a lot of
developers to Fedora and in return, those developers will hit the ground
running with this comprehensive development stack.
-Dan
* or what I think is a marketing brief :)
