F21 Beta release announcement
by Jaroslav Reznik
Hi marketing team/WGs,
me again - we're getting closer to Beta release. The readiness
meeting is just one week away from now, it would be great to have
at least draft prepared.
I see, Joe already created Beta announcement page.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F21_Beta_release_announcement
Btw. it was excellent work on Alpha, with WGs and everyone else
being involved! I expect we don't need much updates from Alpha,
just a bit extend it with more features, more details.
Thanks

Fwd: Fedora 21 Beta status is Go, release on November 4, 2014
by Joe Brockmeier
Hey all,
I'll get this for the magazine. I'm going to add in some info on "why we
slip" as well, per a discussion with mattdm about perception issues with
"slip" and why it's a Good Thing(TM) and not a bad thing.
Best,
jzb

Announcing Fedora Outreach mailing list -- please subscribe if interested
by Matthew Miller
Because response to the Fedora Outreach Steering Committee proposal has
been overwhelmingly positive, I created a new mailing list, initially
to discuss the possible creation of such a group and to coordinate
actually doing it, and then eventually to be a discussion list _for_
the group.
If you are interested in this, please subscribe
at <https://lists.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/outreach>.
Thanks!
[This message is massively multi-posted — please don't reply. Instead,
discuss on the new list!]

Is Marketing interested in becoming part of a new "Fedora Outreach Steering Committee"?
by Matthew Miller
Take a look at <https://fedorahosted.org/famsco/ticket/373> (you should
be able to once you're logged in; the FAmSCo trac requires a FAS
account but I don't think anything else). From that ticket:
With the new Fedora Council, some of the broader budget discussions
are being brought up into a higher project level, and at the same
time, FAmSCo has successfully delegated other responsibilities down
to the regional ambassadors' committees.
Meanwhile, the project really lacks coordination between various
areas of outreach — Ambassadors, Marketing, Design Team (which is
responsible for branding), and support efforts like Ask Fedora and
even Documentation and Web. This may also include areas of the new
Fedora.next Working Groups which touch on these areas — branding,
marketing, conference attendance in support of a particular
product, and etc.
The new Outreach Representative on the Council is meant to help
with this, but: a) we'd like that person to be selected by an
elected community body, and FAmSCo is the current closest match,
even though it doesn't encompass everything, b) having a group with
this shared responsibility reduces the workload on one single
individual, c) having a committee connected into the various groups
will help prevent cases where that person happens to have a
blindspot due to their background in the project, and d) having a
coordinated outreach group would be useful in itself.
This new "FOSCo" group would mirror FESCo, and to jointly represent the
interests of all of the outreach-oriented parts of the project. And,
clearly, Marketing is one of the key areas that would fall under that
banner.
The current FAmSCo group is generally in favor, but also in some ways
that is the group which would be least impacted. So, what do you think?
If people are generally in favor, I'm thinking we'd start this with the
post-F21 elections.

firefox start page no longer start.fpo -- do we want that?
by Matthew Miller
In Rawhide and F21 alpha (and beta), the start page for firefox is now
about:newtab, with start.fedoraproject.org a pinned page.
>From the stats on Fedora Magazine — which means someone saw a headline
there and clicked — it's getting a _lot_ of use. Generating magazine
traffic is good, but even more importantly, this is one of our key
channels of communication to users.
Since the pinned page doesn't show you the new headlines, I'm concerned
that we're going to lose a lot from this switch. (We could of course
also pin the magazine directly, but, again, no headlines...)
Do we want to ask the package maintainer to revert the change? I know
there was some talk of updating the start.fpo design, but that seems
like a separate consideration.

Re: Fedora-sponsored specials: All Things Open
by Chris Collings
Thank you Paul and Rikki,
That book looks great for people switching from xp, it's just the sort of thing I was looking for a couple of years back. How many of these are we looking to distribute? Are we looking to make $15.99 on each?, and do we have any advertising budget?
I agree with Rikki that ideally we need to have these with users be the end of the year and also that we should be looking for people New to linux

workstation marketing - hardware
by Máirín Duffy
Hi,
Quick question from the website dept. here -
We are thinking about having a nice high-quality photo of a laptop to
show the workstation desktop screenshot on for the website.
Do we have any preferences as to what model laptop we might want to
feature? If we did this, would we have to blur out / debrand the system?
Does anyone have thoughts on this kind of thing?
Thanks,
~m

Hi Chris,
I'm interested in the magazine due to my blogging efforts but I'd
definitely help in any other areas.
I will have a look at the trac.
Thanks for the welcome!
