facebook group settings
by Matthew Miller
The Fedora - Linux Facebook group is set to require administrative approval
for all new members. This results in a lot of busywork, because while there
are a few clearly fake profiles and so on, it's a few dozen legit people
every day.
Would it be a horrible thing if we set this to an open membership policy? We
could continue to require administrative approval for posts. Or was there a
horrible spam problem?

Fedora marketing is dead
by Giuseppe Pignataro
Ok folks now I have your attention.
We have to start to make some noise about Fedora.
We don't have the basics things, that are the minimum to start.
First, no official page on social network. This isn't a good thing.
I have tried to search fedora on Facebook and this
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fedora-informatica/655798371147619
and this https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fedora-Project/103128663061181
are the only things that came out.
We need an official facebook page, have you seen the ubuntu page on
facebook https://www.facebook.com/ubuntulinux
978k people liked that page.
This can be first part of the war.
Google+ and all the other social can have the official page and the
official account.
We need to start to make war at ubuntu, on the web there are 1000 about
Ubuntu vs 10 about fedora.(The number isn't really this but it's to give
you an idea.)
We have to change the way that people see fedora. When I speak with
someone that are new to Linux world they say me that "Ubuntu is simple".
Ubuntu is a distro for users and if they now fedora they say me that
fedora is for engineer or for people that really know Linux. We have to
change this idea.
We can start with writing article about configuring this or how to
install this, and how to trying this other on the fedora magazine
firstly.
The problem, as I can see,is that the Fedora community is to close in
himself.
If we can't change this we are out of the game.

Texas Linux Fest - Austin Texas
by Timothy M Butterworth
All,
I see Fedora Project is going to have a booth at The Texas Linux Fest in
Austin Texas. Does anyone know who is running the booth and if they are still
seeking volunteers from Texas.
Thanks

Yes, to summarize what happened on this thread earlier in the day, I worked
with Amanda Newby to create a footer and terms of use that were based on
the ones we used for opensource.com. At some point in a migration or
upgrade or something, they both evaporated and were replaced with
"Copyright Fedora Magazine," which obviously needed to be fixed. But if
osdc has switched up to CC 4, maybe we should revisit for FM as well?

fedora magazine copyright/license

So a response to mattdm's posting:

No, but that doesn't matter.

I object.
Red Hat has been on record for some years objecting to the Gilligan's
Island Copyright. This was supposed to be fixed years ago for the wiki
and never was. This was also supposed to be fixed for documentation
but I don't believe it ever was.
Under CC BY-SA 3.0 section 4, Red Hat requests removal of its name
from these Gilligan's Island copyright notices. You can use "Copyright
© 2014 others." if you wish.
Opensource.com has been used as a legal model here (whether that is a
good idea or not I'm not sure) and it does not use any copyright
notice, Gilligan's Island or otherwise.
My suggestion: If you feel you need a copyright notice at all, even
though you don't, please use "Copyright <YEAR> Fedora Magazine Authors".
For the love of $DEITY do not use "All Rights Reserved", this was
deprecated by Red Hat seven years ago or more.
I don't care too much about, er, the rest.

I couldn't agree more.

fedora magazine copyright/license
by Matthew Miller
Right now, Fedora Magazine content says "Copyright Fedora Magazine. All
Rights Reserved" at the bottom. Is "Fedora Magazine" an entity which can
actually hold copyrights?
I think we should change this to something more like the copyright notice at
the bottom of the wiki --
Copyright © 2014 Red Hat, Inc. and others. All Rights Reserved. For
comments or queries, please contact us. The Fedora Project is maintained
and driven by the community and sponsored by Red Hat. This is a community
maintained site. Red Hat is not responsible for content. Content is
available under Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported unless otherwise
noted.
