Re: DNF Article
by Máirín Duffy
Is that a NASCAR thing or something? I've never heard of it as a thing. I used to run varsity x-country and track and we didn't use 'DNF' to mean 'Did Not Finish' afaik.
In a computing community I'd think it'd more likely evoke 'Disjunctive Normal Form' which has no negative connotation.
Not that this is really the thread or list to discuss this.

Self-Introduction Michael Creekmore
by Michael
Hello list,
My name is Michael Creekmore. I live in the Memphis, TN area in the USA,
My Fedora Account System (FAS) username is mrcreek and my IRC nickname
is mrcreek.
I learned about this group through searching for ways to contribute to
the community that creates the open source happiness that I use
everyday.
I haven't worked for a FOSS projects before.
My day job (IT, managed services) gives me a few hats to wear on a daily
basis. I am constantly assessing situations to mold new solutions for my
clients. I have to sell, and implement those solutions, which involves
me planning the project ahead of time. Basically my skills are being a
cradle to grave project sales person engineer. I promise that's a thing.
I have worked on marketing campaigns in a work related sense and know a
few basic concepts of the field. I would love learn more about
marketing, mainly for the purpose of spreading the fedora love.
While my day job is basically the enemy of all that is holy, good, and
open source. I would love to bring my skills to the fedora project and
help share the fedora awesomeness in my community.
What I would like to see in the fedora project is a strong presence in
education. I have had opportunities to teach home school co-op computer
classes. I've also worked for schools that have nothing but over priced
apple products for every child. In each place Fedora has a perfect fit
for learning.
Thanks,
Michael

Focuswriter would be a great piece of software in the repos to do a app
spotlight / review style article on.
Focuswriter is distraction-free text editor app that lets you focus on
writing, removing all other distractions from the desktop.

Re: DNF Article
by Máirín Duffy
I asked if it was a NASCAR thing bc if DNF means did not finish, it must have something to do with racing. I have a lot of experience in running and the leagues and road races I've ran in never used the term afaik. I have also watched the Boston Marathon in person more than once and I've never heard the term. So I thought maybe it was from auto racing, and I thought Bryan was from NC where NASCAR is quite popular so maybe it is a regional term. There was no negative connotation meant by asking if it was associated with NASCAR, I was just grasping at straws since I'd never heard of it.
Either way it really seems like racing jargon to me, not part of the general lexicon, and not really a concern. If it is a concern the correct place to bring it up is with the developers, not here.

I don't care what it is named and it makes no difference to me one way
or another. Just confirming that for a lot of people this is in fact
the first thing they will think of because it is in fact commonly used
this way. And it isn't some NASCAR thing, whatever that was intended
to convey.

store numbers -- and, what's next?
by Matthew Miller
I see that M and XL shirts are sold out, with only 2 L left. So that
seems pretty good! The other items are not quite as popular but still a
number have sold.
Ruth, is it premature to talk about what we'd like to see next?
I'd like to see:
- woman's cut t-shirt
- possibly a second t-shirt design if we can sweet-talk the design
team into it
- a really nice backpack, like the ones the CentOS team had at FOSDEM
- fedora lanyards
for the second round.

Article for the Magazine
by Matt Harwood
Hi all,
I have an article I've written that I would love to feature in the magazine
blog. Who would I need to send it to to see if it's wanted please? :)
It looks at 3 productivity tools for users to consider, which I think would
very much appeal to a developer/'workstation' audience!
Many thanks!

magazine design refresh
by Matthew Miller
I know Ryan's been working on this on and off. I'd really like to see a
design refresh, especially as traffic is increasing. And I think no one
was really _opposed_ to reducing categories to "For Users", "For
Contributors", and "5tFTW".
