Magazine workflow
by Ryan Lerch
Currently, we are using a pretty stock wordpress when it comes to
editing workflow. However for a larger multi-writer / editor blog like
we have going in the magazine, it is not really working.
WE have a bunch of posts in the Pending state, some that are now a
little out-of-date to post, mainly because no-one knew they were written.
Another issue is providing editiorial feedback to writers -- we tried to
work around this with filing trac tickets, but that isn't really working.
Long story short, I have been looking at the editflow plugin[1] to try
to streamline some of this, and make our publishing workflow a lot
better. Check it out, and i should have some details on how we will use
this soon.
cheers,

How do you log into the Magazine?
by Ryan Lerch
Hi all,
Just wondering how everyone logs into the magazine?
Do you use your Fedora FAS openID? or another OpenID? or just a
wordpress username and password?

Will people be grumpy if I include Mac OS X instructions?
by Joe Brockmeier
Hey all,
Question - I'm wondering if folks are likely to be grumpy en masse if I include instructions targeted to Mac OS X users for a post on Fedora Magazine?
Context: We're producing two kinds of Vagrant boxes for Fedora 22 Atomic - KVM/libvirt and VirtualBox. The VirtualBox images are most likely to be consumed by Vagrant users on Mac OS X and Windows. That's a Good Thing(TM) if we have devs on Mac OS X/Windows spinning up Fedora for their Docker work/testing.
But it feels slightly weird writing a howto that includes Mac instructions for Fedora Magazine. Thoughts? Hope I'm just being over-sensitive.
Best,
jzb

proposal: managing editor for Fedora Magazine?
by Máirín Duffy
I'm wondering if, as we do in other Fedora associated projects, we
should have a lead / managing editor for Fedora Magazine to help drive
the vision and be empowered and accountable for making the strategic
kinds of decisions we've been talking about in the thread on the
magazine theme. This was something Rikki thought would be a good idea to
help us move forward.
If we agree this would be a good role to have, I think Ryan Lerch [1]
would be a good fit since he's already put a lot of effort and thinking
into the magazine layout/theming/workflow and is a talented and
experienced writer and editor in his own right (he's written half of the
top ten Fedora Magazine articles of all time.)

Re: New Magazine theme
by Máirín Duffy
Sorry for breaking the thread and top posting w my awful mobile client....
Do we have stats showing any difference in traffic to community vs user oriented content?
I'd argue planet.fpo is the contributor version.... and magazine is the user version. I liked Paul's idea of having the default on the front page being user focused content instead of all. An idea is that the contributor focused stuff could get posted to planet via fedora mags rss feed which links back to fedoramag, but not promoted as the user content is.
I think youre going to get a better site overall by making a choice rather than straddling the two audiences. There is such a dearth of Fedora user-focused content in general I really think better to make fedoramag for them since they need it. You could better serve contributors with some curation on planet.fpo (display planet.fpo curated by default?) or by getting individuals already listed on planet to make more better posts. (And the hubs, when they are ready :) )
Re underground silo.... what kinds of critical contributor content are you most concerned about? would planet.fpo not serve that content well?
If the concern is that planet posts are fleeting, could we stand up another wp - very informal - for the contrib focused stuff... but no front end, brand identity, or anything, just an rss feed to be slurped into planet but the posts / comments / stats would be stored in the wp?

So, what I was going for in suggesting the user/contributor categories
kind of _is_ like having a mini separate site, like this suggestion but
with a lot less overhead both in systems administration and in blog
administration. A whole 'nother site would double the workload, and
we're largely depending on (awesome — thanks!) volunteer efforts for
this as it is.
I'm also concerned with too strong of a divide meaning that the
important contributor-focused articles end up in yet another
underground silo somewhere... we've had a hard enough time building up
the magazine as a place to look.
