Bylines on Community Blog?
by Joe Brockmeier
Hey all,
Any chance of getting proper bylines on the community blog? That is, you
know, a name with a link to a bio for the author? (And I do mean *name*
not just someone's nick.)
I like the footer on Fedora Magazine with the author's name, bio, and
link to site + Twitter.
Best,
jzb

[Magazine…?] The Black Box
by Justin W. Flory
Hi all,
This email is about a pitch idea I have, but I'm looking at identifying
if the Fedora Magazine is the best audience for it, or if I should
consider an alternative publishing source like OSDC.
The same student at the Rochester Institute of Technology who designed
the laser interface software in the laser light show article a couple of
months back also has another awesome project... introducing the Black Box.
He designed this for one of the courses in RIT's FOSS minor. The Black
Box is a mysterious black box! What does it do? You don't know. It's
locked. It's a mysterious black box. What the presenter will then tell
you is that it's a service that offers a free encryption service.
However, you can't know how it works. That is not allowed.
To make a longer (and very hilarious) story short, the presenter then
shows you how the encryption method is actually backdoored and is
arbitrary. But… what is inside the Black Box? After it is unlocked, it
is revealed that the insides actually contain a small sample of
radioactive material and a Geiger counter! The Black Box uses an
open-source kernel module to generate a random number from the read of
the Geiger counter. I was able to see it presented it live, and it was
quite the show!
The lesson behind the Black Box is to show how with proprietary
software, you don't actually know what's going on "behind closed doors".
It's a very engaging, exciting, and maybe ever so slightly dangerous
project that I think is a fantastic example of breaking down the
difference between open and closed software development.
Links to his project are below:
http://brendan-w.com/rng
https://github.com/brendan-w/kRad
So, as mentioned earlier, my question is whether or not this would be
appropriate for the Magazine. It doesn't have a specific tie into
Fedora, which is why I'm wondering if it's relevant enough for us.
Curious to know your thoughts! Thanks.

Streaming live from conferences
by Lord Drachenblut
Greetings all.
During the course of streaming live from the Fedora booth at SCALE14x I was
contacted by another ambassador wishing to replicate the experience at
SELF. Which brings up how do we want to handle giving people access to the
streaming key for YouTube. I'm uncertain if we can add people as managers
to that channel which would also give them access to the ability to stream
live.
One way it can be handled is by simply giving them the key, which can be
reset after the event if need be.
I really want to enable any community member to be able to live stream from
a event they are at but want to have some plans in place for how to handle
granting access to the stream key, needed by applications such as
obsproject.com to stream to YouTube, and possibly how to handle granting
access to the YouTube back end interface.
Thanks for the time
Cheers

[Magazine] Subtle scheduling changes
by Justin W. Flory
Hi all,
A few small changes were made to the publishing schedule for the rest of
this week and into next week. Earlier this week, we swapped the dates on
the stickers article from Monday to Wednesday (swapping with Shotwell).
A few other changes have happened:
=== Stickers ===
The stickers article is still not ready to ship because of some
potential problems I saw with using the DevConfCZ stickers.
https://imgur.com/a/Trg5w
These pictures show off some awesome stickers, but many of the stickers
pictured are not any of the UnixStickers stickers, so I'm not sure it's
a good idea we feature them in this article. Ideally, we would just want
the teardrop sticker on a few different things.
In the meanwhile, I've decided to hold off on finishing this article to
see if we can get some pictures of the UnixStickers.com stickers or if
we can find a viable alternative. We can go over this tomorrow at the
meeting and try to ship as soon as possible.
=== GPG, part 3 ===
"GPG: Using Your Key" is scheduled for 8:00 UTC on 2016-02-12.
cprofitt++ for another fantastic addition to the series.
=== F24 Wallpapers ===
Sirko's F24 wallpaper submission announcement article is scheduled for
8:00 UTC on 2016-02-15, as we agreed in January. I did a final pass of
editing earlier tonight as well and I give it my +1.
=== Neville Cross: How do you Fedora? ===
Neville's HDYF article is scheduled for 8:00 UTC on 2016-02-17.
williamjmorenor++
yn1v++
cprofitt++
=== GPG, part 4 ===
The final GPG article in this series is in the process of being drafted
and is intended to be scheduled for 2016-02-19.
That's all from me tonight. Thanks all!

I could see this being an excellent spotlight on the Fedora Magazine if
there's some Fedorans actively hacking away on this stuff. Any extra
pushes we can make to put Fedora in the edge of IoT is a good idea.
Anyone know of anyone in the Project who might be interested in talking
about something they're working on in this realm?
Even if not, we might still be able to turn something like this into a
Magazine article too.
