Rebase-helper article
by Ryan Lerch
Hi all,
I have just completed my edit of the rebase-helper article! I did a little
pruning to try to make it more suitable for the magazine audience, but i
think it is pretty much ready to go in my book. I have also added a
featured image to it as well.
https://fedoramagazine.org/?p=12367&preview_id=12367&preview_nonce=201c95...
Petr, would you be able to double check my changes to the article, just to
make sure things i have written are technically correct?
cheers,
ryanlerch

[Proposal] Auto-publish CommBlog posts to main @Fedora Twitter Account
by Remy DeCausemaker
mktgs,
As per a discussion we've been having on the commops list
(https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/commops@lists.fedoraproject...
) Churchyard has pointed out that the @Fedoracommunity twitter account
is basically just an RSS feed, and that the machine generated titles
are boring, and not very engaging for current or potential followers.
I've been asked to put forth a proposal to unify our social media
auto-posting presences.
Currently, there are three active twitter accounts: @Fedora,
@Fedoracommunity and @Fedobot.
@Fedora https://twitter.com/fedora is our main twitter account, which
has the Fedora Magazine auto-publishing to that feed via the jetpack
plugin in Wordpress. It has 68.9K followers.
@Fedoracommunity https://twitter.com/fedoracommunity is a separate
twitter account we set up in the early days of the CommBlog, to test
out jetpack auto-posting. It has 143 followers.
@Fedobot https://twitter.com/fedobot is a twitter bot that has been
used for experimental auto-posting not associated with our Wordpress
blogs, such as wordcloudbot (auto-posts wordclouds based on IRC
meeting logs.) It has 51 followers.
It has been suggested that we adjust the community blog's jetpack
plugin to post to the main @Fedora twitter account, so that we are not
dividing our content. The only possible issue that we have here is
that there is occasional cross-promotion that occurs between Magazine
and CommBlog. When we have big announcements--we post pointer or
wrapper articles between the two. This would create some overlap or
echo within the twitter feed.
Even with this echo consideration in mind, I would propose to the mktg
list that we auto-publish posts from the CommBlog to the main @Fedora
twitter account, now that we've established our readership and
editorial process a bit further.
This will *significantly* improve the visibility of our contributor
focused content published on CommBlog, as well as increase the
frequency of posts to the @Fedora twitter account (roughly 2-10
articles per week.)
Thank you all for your time and attention to this proposal, and votes
and discussions are welcome here.

[Magazine] Planning ahead for this Friday
by Justin W. Flory
Hi all,
I'm forwarding this email on behalf of Chaoyi (cydrobolt) – he was
having issues posting to the mailing list and this was a time-sensitive
topic. I chose a somewhat ambiguous subject to keep it low-key for if we
go with this to keep the surprise element.
* * * * *
Hey all!
As you may know, April Fool's is coming up this Friday. For those
unaware, it is a day where many people and organisations play "pranks"
by writing interesting articles.
For instance, Microsoft recently has posted an article about "bash in
Windows 10", which also includes a section joking about the availability
of Ubuntu binaries within Windows 10.
Justin and I were thinking about publishing an April Fool's article on
Fedora Magazine. Some ideas included "Internet Explorer now default
internet browser in Fedora 24" or "Fedora will support sticky keys in
Fedora 24"
If we made an April Fool's article about Internet Explorer (r), we would
be using a Microsoft trademark. However, the usage should be covered
under fair use because it is a parody and “use of some elements of a
prior author’s composition to create a new one that, at least in part,
comments on that author’s works.” (Campbell v. AcuffRose Music, Inc.)
See
https://apps.americanbar.org/litigation/committees/intellectual/roundtabl...
I think the post about Internet Explorer could be interesting, and
sticky keys would also be a quite interesting post. It would help us
garner free publicity and enjoy a good joke :)
After April Fool's, we can mend the article to show that it was an April
Fool's prank. It seems only fair since Microsoft has made April Fool's
pranks about Linux for many years in a row :)
Any input is appreciated! You may also ping us on #fedora-mktg
If either of these ideas are good, I can draft an article and get it
ready to publish before April 1st :)
Cheers,
Chaoyi

Gimp article update 2
by Sylvia Sánchez
Hi everyone!
I just added some more stuff, mainly links. With some luck I'll
review it and upload screenshots by tomorrow. I didn't before because
I lost my wifi over the past week.
I think it's reasonable to say that by Tuesday it will be done.
Thoughts?

Request for Review: Python marketing brochure
by Justin W. Flory
Hello all,
Brian (bprofitt / bkp) recently helped finish the final proposed version
of the brochure we plan to use in the field for quick information about
Fedora + Python.
If some Pythonistas could help review the brochures and make sure the
content checks out and sounds good, your help would be appreciated!
You can find the latest copies of the brochure in this ticket.
https://fedorahosted.org/marketing-team/ticket/219
To help prevent communications from being lost in cross-posted mailing
lists, if anyone who is able could give a +1 / -1 in the ticket, that
would be appreciated! Thanks all.

Gimp article update
by Sylvia Sánchez
Hi everybody!
I added some more stuff to the article. I tried to upload screenshots
but I couldn't, it gave me a HTTP error. Anyone know what does it
means?
In the installation chapter, I'd like to do it a bit more general
instead of pointing specifically to the Gnome version and mention the
Design Spin. Also I thought of adding the advise "Do a dnf search
gimp" so a new user can install everything related to Gimp.
Otherwise, it will be needed to explain under every item how to
install them because most of Gimp parts are modules coming separated
from the main programme. I don't want to mess anyone's work but I
think it would be really useful to someone who never worked with Gimp
or even never worked with a design tool at all.
If everything is ok with my suggestions I'll add them and then write a
note with useful links like forums, brushes, etc.
Cheers,
Sylvia
