My reasoning here was that for the majority of first-time GIMP users, they are probably unlikely to want to install any extra plugins or filters, but just want to install the main package. The thought I had was to give them the simple quick command to just get it.
 

Second comment:  Why did you discard Video? Most of people don't know
Gimp can do that but it does and quite well.  Of course, it isn't like
using a full dedicated programme but if you have something you want to
edit and you already have Gimp it well worth a try.

Third comment:  Any reason to discard FX-Foundry and Script-FU?

The article was getting a little long, and these items are really extra functionality for an intro to GIMP article (IMHO). Without going into detail of how to specifically install and use these complex items, these sections were a little out of scope for an intro to GIMP article.
