Over the past several weeks, the marketing team has been working on a
way to publicize "Fedora Affiliates", or projects that are using Fedora

New subject: [Marketing] Fwd: Fedora Affiliates
Hi all,
Over in Fedora Marketing for the past few weeks, we've been working on
putting together a proposal for a new program, "Fedora Affiliates". This
is a way for organizations like schools, non-profits, or companies that
are actively using Fedora to get a little recognition and exposure as
users of Fedora. Not only does this help them, but it also provides a
record of people that are using Fedora already in all kinds of different
places.
So, for example, if a school is unsure about whether a Linux / Fedora
computer lab is possible, you could visit the Affiliates page, see
examples of schools that are using Fedora, and reach out to them with
questions if needed.
Anyways, our team member who took this on, James, was hoping to get some
more feedback on his proposed drafts for how we explain and recruit
affiliates. The links for all of these things are in the forwarded
message below.
I am sending this to the Ambassadors and council-discuss list. If you
have feedback or comments, the preferred way to leave them is on the
Trac ticket (also linked below). However, if you want to reply back to
this thread, please do so on the Marketing mailing list.

I think this idea is fantastic, but I'm a little concerned about the name
"affiliate". That word is often used to represent a financial relationship
between a company and another person or company who helps the first company
get more sales in exchange for a percentage of the sale. Since there's no
financial relationship here, might it make sense to look for a different
name to describe the relationship?

I think that's a valid concern. An alternative that immediately comes to
mind is "Friends of Fedora", but I'm not sure if that's too cliché or if
it's been used in the past. It might also make sense to do this to tie
it into our Four Foundations too.
Some other alternative names could be...
* Partners (maybe the same problem)
* #FedoraLive (or something similar, insinuating Fedora being "live" in
the field)
* #WeAreFedora (taking from #WeAreRedHat a little, empowering people /
organizations using Fedora)
Just a few ideas. Let me know if any of these sound better!

Hey all,
Wanted to bring this topic back up to the forefront. I think we've
reached a stable point for this proposal thanks to the work of James for
writing these up.
In our last meeting two weeks ago, we were wanting to take the next
steps towards turning this proposal into reality. In terms of finding
the next steps to make, I was curious to know what some of the other
Marketing members might think how we should go about doing this. Do we
want to do a trial run of sorts for this and pull in other groups that
may want to be involved, like the Ambassadors? Did we agree who should
maintain responsibility over handling interactions and relationships
with the Friends of Fedora?
Wanting to see how we can take the next steps towards turning this into
reality. THanks all!
